| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Don Sutton was presented with the 2023 Golden Deeds |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Award by the Exchange Club of Killeen at its annual banquet on April |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 1, 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1955, the Exchange Club of Killeen is |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | dedicated to Americanism, community service, and the well-being of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | children, and it sponsors youth programs and focuses on child abuse |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | prevention; since 1957, members have gathered annually to recognize |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | an individual for "unsolicited, uncompensated, and unselfish" good |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | deeds in the community; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Don Sutton joined the organization on September 1, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 1961, and over the course of more than six decades, he has given |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | generously of his time and talents in numerous capacities; in 1965, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | he served as president of the club; he became vice president and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | bingo chair in 2015, and he continues to serve in those roles; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Sutton has also served on a number of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | committees, and he has volunteered extensively in support of the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | high school, middle school, and elementary school Exchange Clubs; |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | among other acts of kindness, he has purchased toys for children in |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | need at Christmas, squired elderly people to their doctor |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | appointments in Temple, and regularly checked in on current and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | past members of the club; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, A respected member of the business community, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Mr. Sutton was originally a banker by profession, serving as |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | president of Killeen Savings and Loan Association until 1977; he |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | went on to work in real estate sales and appraisals before his |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | retirement in 2015; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Through his myriad contributions in behalf of his |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | fellow residents, Don Sutton has demonstrated an enduring |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | commitment to the mission of the Exchange Club, and he is richly |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | deserving of this prestigious honor; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Don Sutton on his receipt of the |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | 2023 Golden Deeds Award from the Exchange Club of Killeen and extend |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
