5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends were deeply saddened by the |

6 | 6 | | passing of admired educator Lou Ellen Truesdale of Killeen on |
---|
7 | 7 | | December 31, 2022, at the age of 77; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Joe and Bernice Cooper, the former |
---|
9 | 9 | | Ellen Cooper was born on November 6, 1945; she grew up on the family |
---|
10 | 10 | | farm between Holland and Salado with six younger siblings, James, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Rebecca, Peggy, Wanda, Karen, and John; after graduating from |
---|
12 | 12 | | Holland High School, she completed her bachelor's degree in health |
---|
13 | 13 | | and physical education at Mary Hardin-Baylor College and began |
---|
14 | 14 | | teaching at Sugar Loaf Elementary School in Killeen; on July 20, |
---|
15 | 15 | | 1968, she was joined in matrimony to Charles A. Truesdale; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, When Smith Middle School opened on Fort Hood, |
---|
17 | 17 | | Mrs. Truesdale was recruited to teach P.E. and coach volleyball, |
---|
18 | 18 | | basketball, and track; she then joined the faculty of the new |
---|
19 | 19 | | Ellison High School, where she initially coached and taught both |
---|
20 | 20 | | health and P.E.; later, she focused on teaching and launched |
---|
21 | 21 | | Ellison's first outdoor education and CPR/first aid classes; she |
---|
22 | 22 | | was a mentor to other teachers, and she and her husband took her |
---|
23 | 23 | | outdoor education students on overnight campouts; named Secondary |
---|
24 | 24 | | Teacher of the Year for 1981 by the Killeen Classroom Teachers |
---|
25 | 25 | | Association, she was honored as Outstanding Teacher of the Year at |
---|
26 | 26 | | Ellison as well; in 2002, she retired, following a distinguished |
---|
27 | 27 | | 35-year career; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A woman of faith, Mrs. Truesdale joined First United |
---|
29 | 29 | | Methodist Church in 1968 and became very active in worship groups |
---|
30 | 30 | | and such activities as MYF, Sunday school, fried pie-making, and |
---|
31 | 31 | | Abigail Circle, which she particularly enjoyed; she and her husband |
---|
32 | 32 | | spent countless happy hours camping, backpacking, canoeing, |
---|
33 | 33 | | hunting, and fishing together, especially in the Rocky Mountains of |
---|
34 | 34 | | Colorado and Wyoming and with Remington Steel, their treasured dog; |
---|
35 | 35 | | for 45 years, Mrs. Truesdale was a committee member of the |
---|
36 | 36 | | Killeen/Fort Hood Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, and she was a race |
---|
37 | 37 | | official for Texas Water Safari for almost three decades; she was |
---|
38 | 38 | | also an officer of the Governor Samuel Mathews Chapter, National |
---|
39 | 39 | | Society Colonial Dames XVII Century; and |
---|
40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Although Ellen Truesdale is greatly missed by those |
---|
41 | 41 | | she left behind, they will forever remember the warmth and kindness |
---|
42 | 42 | | she brought into their lives; now, therefore, be it |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
44 | 44 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Lou Ellen Truesdale |
---|
45 | 45 | | and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family: to her |
---|
46 | 46 | | husband, Chuck Truesdale; to her siblings, Peggy Sralla, Wanda |
---|
47 | 47 | | Cooper, Karen Sanders, and John Cooper; and to all others who mourn |

48 | 48 | | her passing; and, be it further |
