5	5	WHEREAS, Character.org has designated nine campuses of
6	6	Harmony Public Schools as 2023 State Schools of Character; and
7	7	WHEREAS, A national nonprofit organization based in
8	8	Washington, D.C., Character.org was established in 1993 with the
9	9	goal of inspiring, educating, and empowering students to become
10	10	ethical and compassionate citizens; the organization annually
11	11	certifies schools and school districts that demonstrate a dedicated
12	12	focus on achieving that goal; and
13	13	WHEREAS, Harmony Public Schools is a public charter school
14	14	system with campuses serving students in prekindergarten through
15	15	the 12th grade in 23 cities across Texas; its curriculum centers on
16	16	STEM skills, character education, project-based learning, and
17	17	college readiness; and
18	18	WHEREAS, The nine Harmony campuses recognized by
19	19	Character.org as 2023 State Schools of Character are Harmony School
20	20	of Achievement-Houston, Harmony School of Excellence-Laredo,
21	21	Harmony School of Exploration-Houston, Harmony School of Fine Arts &
22	22	Technology-Houston, Harmony School of Innovation-Dallas, Harmony
23	23	School of Science-El Paso, Harmony Science Academy-Dallas High,
24	24	Harmony Science Academy-El Paso, and Harmony Science
25	25	Academy-Houston; of the nearly 130,000 public and private schools
26	26	in the U.S., only 73 earned certification, including only 15 in
27	27	Texas; and
28	28	WHEREAS, Thirteen other Harmony campuses previously earned
29	29	the honor, which remains with schools for five years after
30	30	designation; among them are Harmony School of Advancement-Houston,
31	31	Harmony School of Excellence-Houston, Harmony School of
32	32	Innovation-Garland, Harmony School of Innovation-Sugar Land,
33	33	Harmony Science Academy-Dallas Middle, Harmony Science
34	34	Academy-Cedar Park, Harmony Science Academy-Pflugerville, Harmony
35	35	School of Innovation-Fort Worth, Harmony Science Academy-Garland,
36	36	Harmony School of Endeavor-Houston, Harmony School of
37	37	Innovation-Houston, Harmony School of Science-Houston, and Harmony
38	38	School of Innovation-Katy; moreover, 37 others were listed as
39	39	emerging character campuses or received honorable mention status;
40	40	and
41	41	WHEREAS, By creating learning environments that promote
42	42	positive values and personal growth, Harmony schools are providing
43	43	their students with important instruction that will serve them well
44	44	throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
45	45	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
46	46	Legislature hereby congratulate nine Harmony Public Schools
47	47	campuses on receiving 2023 State Schools of Character designation
48	48	from Character.org and extend to all those associated with the
49	49	school system sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
50	50	further
51	51	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
52	52	prepared for Harmony Public Schools as an expression of high regard
53	53	by the Texas House of Representatives.
