| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The members of New Bethlehem Missionary Baptist |

| 6 | 6 | | Church in Houston are joining together on April 30, 2023, to honor |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Pastor David L. Smith for 31 years of dedicated service to that |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | congregation; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native Houstonian, David Smith enjoyed a rewarding |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | career with the city's Department of Public Works and Engineering |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | that spanned more than three decades before his retirement; he has |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | given generously of his time and talents to numerous civic |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | organizations, including his service as president of the Houston |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Northeast Community Development Corporation and as a board member |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of the Aldine Education Foundation; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Smith was a longtime member of New Bethlehem |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Missionary Baptist Church, and he first answered the call to the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | ministry at Truevine Missionary Baptist Church in 1985; on April |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 26, 1992, he returned to New Bethlehem as the congregation's fifth |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | pastor, and under his able leadership, the church has experienced |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | significant growth and established a number of programs to serve |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | the community, including a food pantry, a tape ministry, and a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | mission ministry; a graduate of the College of Biblical Studies, he |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | has also attended the Southern Reformed College and Seminary; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Pastor Smith enjoys the love |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and support of his wife, Linda, and he takes great pride in his |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | daughters, Tamara, Crystal, and Jessica, as well as his |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | grandchildren, Jayla, Tamia, Chandler, and King; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, David Smith has served New Bethlehem Missionary |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Baptist Church with conviction and compassion, and he has earned |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | the lasting respect and admiration of his congregants as well as |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | members of the greater community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby commend Pastor David L. Smith on his outstanding |

| 35 | 35 | | 31-year tenure with New Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church and |

| 36 | 36 | | extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success with his |
