44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
66 a close with the passing of James Robert Lago of Corpus Christi on
77 March 15, 2023, at the age of 77; and
88 WHEREAS, Born in Gilmer on August 2, 1945, Jim Lago grew up
99 working at his family's cattle operation in addition to having a job
1010 delivering newspapers; as a young adult, he was an oil field worker;
1111 he went on to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force during the
1212 Vietnam War; and
1313 WHEREAS, Embarking on a career in broadcasting, Mr. Lago got
1414 his start at KLUE in Longview before working at stations in Beaumont
1515 and Houston; for more than three decades, he was a mainstay of
1616 Corpus Christi radio, first as a DJ for Z95 and later as a
1717 conservative talk radio host at KEYS and KKTX; he welcomed opposing
1818 views, often disarming guests with his curiosity, humility, and
1919 infectious laugh; the host of the Lago in the Morning show, he would
2020 end his broadcasts with his trademark signoff, "Have yourself a
2121 Blue Bell country day"; in 2016, he was honored with induction into
2222 the Texas Radio Hall of Fame; and
2323 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Lago benefited from the
2424 love and support of his wife, Pamela, and he was the devoted father
2525 of three daughters, Christy, Jordan, and Jayme, who preceded her
2626 father in death; over the years, he had the pleasure of welcoming
2727 into his family five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; in
2828 his leisure time, he was a voracious reader, and he loved baseball,
2929 especially the Corpus Christi Hooks; and
3030 WHEREAS, Although he will be deeply missed, the passage of
3131 time will never diminish the joy and love that Jim Lago brought into
3232 the lives of all who knew him; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3434 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of James Robert Lago
3535 and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his
3636 wife, Pamela; to his daughters, Christy and Jordan; to his
3737 grandchildren, Corey and his wife, Ashley, Zoe, Aubry, Brett, and
3838 Isaac; to his great-granddaughters, Ava and Ella; to his sisters,
3939 Donna and Lenise; and to his many other relatives and friends; and,
4040 be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4343 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jim Lago.
