5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to |

6 | 6 | | a close with the passing of James Robert Lago of Corpus Christi on |

7 | 7 | | March 15, 2023, at the age of 77; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Gilmer on August 2, 1945, Jim Lago grew up |
---|
9 | 9 | | working at his family's cattle operation in addition to having a job |
---|
10 | 10 | | delivering newspapers; as a young adult, he was an oil field worker; |
---|
11 | 11 | | he went on to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force during the |
---|
12 | 12 | | Vietnam War; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Embarking on a career in broadcasting, Mr. Lago got |
---|
14 | 14 | | his start at KLUE in Longview before working at stations in Beaumont |
---|
15 | 15 | | and Houston; for more than three decades, he was a mainstay of |
---|
16 | 16 | | Corpus Christi radio, first as a DJ for Z95 and later as a |
---|
17 | 17 | | conservative talk radio host at KEYS and KKTX; he welcomed opposing |
---|
18 | 18 | | views, often disarming guests with his curiosity, humility, and |
---|
19 | 19 | | infectious laugh; the host of the Lago in the Morning show, he would |
---|
20 | 20 | | end his broadcasts with his trademark signoff, "Have yourself a |
---|
21 | 21 | | Blue Bell country day"; in 2016, he was honored with induction into |
---|
22 | 22 | | the Texas Radio Hall of Fame; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Lago benefited from the |
---|
24 | 24 | | love and support of his wife, Pamela, and he was the devoted father |
---|
25 | 25 | | of three daughters, Christy, Jordan, and Jayme, who preceded her |
---|
26 | 26 | | father in death; over the years, he had the pleasure of welcoming |
---|
27 | 27 | | into his family five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; in |
---|
28 | 28 | | his leisure time, he was a voracious reader, and he loved baseball, |
---|
29 | 29 | | especially the Corpus Christi Hooks; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Although he will be deeply missed, the passage of |
---|
31 | 31 | | time will never diminish the joy and love that Jim Lago brought into |
---|
32 | 32 | | the lives of all who knew him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of James Robert Lago |
---|
35 | 35 | | and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his |
---|
36 | 36 | | wife, Pamela; to his daughters, Christy and Jordan; to his |

37 | 37 | | grandchildren, Corey and his wife, Ashley, Zoe, Aubry, Brett, and |

38 | 38 | | Isaac; to his great-granddaughters, Ava and Ella; to his sisters, |
