| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Fashion designer Chloe Dao of Houston has |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | distinguished herself through her accomplishments as the owner of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the Dao Chloe Dao boutique as well as through her contributions to |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the community; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native Houstonian, Ms. Dao graduated from the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City; in 2000, she |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | returned to her hometown to establish the Dao Chloe Dao Boutique, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | which was formerly known as Lot 8, in the Rice Village shopping |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | district; she went on to open a pop-up location for the boutique in |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the Heights neighborhood in 2021, and she closed the store's |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | original location in February 2023; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Dao gained international acclaim after winning |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Project Runway Season 2 in 2006; over the years, she has partnered |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | with businesses such as Nuo Tech and QVC, and in 2008, she created a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | line of travel and technology accessories; in addition, she was |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | selected to design a special dress for the Crazy Rich Asians |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | premiere at the Austin Asian American Film Festival; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to her community, Ms. Dao has designed a |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | number of clothing items to benefit charitable organizations in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Houston, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, she and her staff made |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | and donated thousands of masks to medical professionals as well as |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | to the general public; she also serves on the fashion advisory |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | boards at Houston Community College and The Art Institute of |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Houston, and since 2019, she has cohosted the annual Houston |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Designer Platform, which showcases the work of local designers; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Through her talent, creativity, and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | entrepreneurship, Chloe Dao has earned the respect and admiration |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | of innumerable people over the course of her career in the fashion |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | industry, and it is a pleasure to join in recognizing her for the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | positive impact she has made in the Houston community; now, |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
