5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Gina M. Spagnola was named the 2023 Remarkable Woman |

6 | 6 | | of the Year by the CW39 Houston television station; and |

7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Each year, CW39 presents its Remarkable Woman award |
---|
8 | 8 | | to recognize and celebrate local women who inspire, lead, and forge |
---|
9 | 9 | | the way for other women; the award is part of a Nexstar Media Group |
---|
10 | 10 | | nationwide initiative to honor the influence that women have had on |
---|
11 | 11 | | public policy, quality of life, and social progress; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Recognized for her tireless advocacy in behalf of |
---|
13 | 13 | | small businesses, youth, and the Galveston community, Gina Spagnola |
---|
14 | 14 | | has served as the president and CEO of the Galveston Regional |
---|
15 | 15 | | Chamber of Commerce for two decades; over the course of her tenure, |
---|
16 | 16 | | she has helped establish the annual Galveston Women's Conference, |
---|
17 | 17 | | developed the Coastal Legislative Tour, and created the chamber's |
---|
18 | 18 | | education committee, which launched the successful youth |
---|
19 | 19 | | entrepreneurship program Lemonade Day; under her able leadership, |
---|
20 | 20 | | the chamber retained 85 percent of its members during the COVID-19 |
---|
21 | 21 | | pandemic, and in 2022, it received a 5-star accreditation from the |
---|
22 | 22 | | U.S. Chamber of Commerce; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Spagnola has also given generously of her time |
---|
24 | 24 | | and talents to numerous other organizations, boards, and |
---|
25 | 25 | | committees, including the local Salvation Army and the Humanities |
---|
26 | 26 | | Texas Board of Directors; moreover, she is a member of the U.S. |
---|
27 | 27 | | Chamber of Commerce National Business Recovery Corps and was |
---|
28 | 28 | | appointed by Governor Greg Abbott to the Business Advisory Council |
---|
29 | 29 | | to the Texas Division of Emergency Management in 2020; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Gina Spagnola has greatly benefited her fellow |
---|
31 | 31 | | citizens through her wide-ranging contributions to her community, |
---|
32 | 32 | | and she is indeed a deserving recipient of this notable accolade; |

34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
