44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
66 passing of Charley Phelps Peck of Weatherford on April 9, 2023, at
77 the age of 62; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Lola and Loman Peck, Charley Peck was born
99 on February 11, 1961, in Paducah, Kentucky, and he grew up with two
1010 sisters, Lo'Anne and Loma; he attended Reidland High School, where
1111 he played basketball and football, and following his graduation in
1212 1979, he continued his education at Murray State University; he was
1313 a member of the university's football team and joined Alpha Tau
1414 Omega before graduating with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and
1515 biology; and
1616 WHEREAS, Mr. Peck enjoyed a successful career in the chemical
1717 industry; he worked for two decades with Brenntag, and most
1818 recently, he served as president of Cooper Natural Resources;
1919 active in his community, he gave of his time and talents to the Pine
2020 Tree Independent School District Board of Trustees, the Hiway 80
2121 Rescue Mission, and Parker County Emergency Service District 7; he
2222 was also a deacon at First Baptist Church in Longview and later
2323 taught Sunday school at North Side Baptist Church in Weatherford;
2424 and
2525 WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Peck was deeply devoted to his
2626 wife, Sherry, and to his children, Preston and Morgan; he was quick
2727 to offer his kids encouragement and was present for all of their
2828 activities, coaching teams and attending recitals; later in life,
2929 he had the joy of welcoming into his family a daughter-in-law,
3030 Abbey, and a son-in-law, Trey, who he considered as his own
3131 children; in his leisure time, he could often be found outdoors,
3232 taking part in cookouts and hunting trips, and his life was further
3333 enriched by the companionship of his favorite hunting dog, Stick;
3434 and
3535 WHEREAS, Although Charley Peck is deeply missed, those who
3636 were privileged to share in this esteemed man's love and friendship
3737 will always remember him with great admiration and affection; now,
3838 therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4040 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Charley Phelps Peck
4141 and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
4242 wife, Sherry Peck; to his son, Preston Peck, and his wife, Abbey; to
4343 his daughter, Morgan Gregory, and her husband, Trey; to his sister,
4444 Lo'Anne Peck, and Jeff Shuemaker; and to his other relatives and
4545 friends; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4747 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4848 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charley
4949 Peck.
