| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Refugee Advocacy Day is being recognized at the |

| 6 | 6 | | State Capitol on April 20, 2023; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, Texans have demonstrated compassion |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and public spirit in welcoming refugees to the Lone Star State; in |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | turn, those refugees have helped to strengthen the state's economy, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | contributing to the success of hundreds of Texas companies and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | stimulating the market with a spending power of some $4.6 billion; |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Embodying the resilience, determination, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | optimism that have always defined the American spirit, many |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | refugees have gone on to become business owners and industry |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | leaders; in addition, the taxes they pay more than compensate for |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | their use of shared public services, with refugees on average |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | contributing a net amount of $21,000 during their first 20 years in |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the country; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Refugees resettled in Texas add to the economic and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | cultural richness of our state, and the individuals and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | organizations who have helped refugees rebuild their lives here are |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | indeed deserving of acknowledgment for setting a humanitarian |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | example that is respected and admired around the world; now, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | therefore, be it |

| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby recognize April 20, 2023, as Refugee Advocacy |

| 28 | 28 | | Day at the State Capitol and extend to all those participating in |

| 29 | 29 | | this event sincere best wishes for the future. |
