R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Symphonic Winds ensemble at Rushing Middle
School in the Prosper Independent School District has been invited
to perform at the 77th annual Midwest Clinic International Band,
Orchestra, and Music Conference taking place in Chicago, Illinois,
from December 20 to 22, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Each year, hundreds of bands apply to perform at the
event, but only a few are selected; the Rushing Symphonic Winds is
one of just four middle school bands invited to play at this
prestigious festival, which is considered the world's largest
convention for music education; and
WHEREAS, More than 18,000 people from all 50 states and over
40 countries will attend the conference in 2023; the Midwest Clinic
was founded in 1946 as an assembly of some 120 Chicago-area
directors and quickly began to expand; initially, it invited
directors to bring their bands on the basis of their reputations; it
eventually developed a highly competitive application process; and
WHEREAS, Symphonic Winds is guided by Rushing's head band
director, Jarred Dodd; in 2022, the ensemble's percussion section,
under the leadership of Rushing's percussion director, Shane
Snyder, placed first at the Texas Christian University Percussion
Festival in 2022; Prosper ISD has been named by the NAMM Foundation
as one of the Best Communities for Music Education in the country,
in recognition of its commitment to music education and its efforts
to ensure access to music for all students; and
WHEREAS, Through their talent, hard work, and commitment to
excellence, the young musicians of the Rushing Middle School
Symphonic Winds have earned their way to an international event of
enormous prestige, and their achievement is a great credit to
Prosper ISD and a source of pride to their families, friends, and
fellow students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Rushing Middle School
Symphonic Winds on being invited to perform at the 2023 Midwest
Clinic International Band, Orchestra, and Music Conference and
extend to the members and directors sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the ensemble as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
