5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Symphonic Winds ensemble at Rushing Middle |

6 | 6 | | School in the Prosper Independent School District has been invited |

7 | 7 | | to perform at the 77th annual Midwest Clinic International Band, |

8 | 8 | | Orchestra, and Music Conference taking place in Chicago, Illinois, |
---|
9 | 9 | | from December 20 to 22, 2023; and |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Each year, hundreds of bands apply to perform at the |
---|
11 | 11 | | event, but only a few are selected; the Rushing Symphonic Winds is |
---|
12 | 12 | | one of just four middle school bands invited to play at this |
---|
13 | 13 | | prestigious festival, which is considered the world's largest |
---|
14 | 14 | | convention for music education; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, More than 18,000 people from all 50 states and over |
---|
16 | 16 | | 40 countries will attend the conference in 2023; the Midwest Clinic |
---|
17 | 17 | | was founded in 1946 as an assembly of some 120 Chicago-area |
---|
18 | 18 | | directors and quickly began to expand; initially, it invited |
---|
19 | 19 | | directors to bring their bands on the basis of their reputations; it |
---|
20 | 20 | | eventually developed a highly competitive application process; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Symphonic Winds is guided by Rushing's head band |
---|
22 | 22 | | director, Jarred Dodd; in 2022, the ensemble's percussion section, |
---|
23 | 23 | | under the leadership of Rushing's percussion director, Shane |
---|
24 | 24 | | Snyder, placed first at the Texas Christian University Percussion |
---|
25 | 25 | | Festival in 2022; Prosper ISD has been named by the NAMM Foundation |
---|
26 | 26 | | as one of the Best Communities for Music Education in the country, |
---|
27 | 27 | | in recognition of its commitment to music education and its efforts |
---|
28 | 28 | | to ensure access to music for all students; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Through their talent, hard work, and commitment to |
---|
30 | 30 | | excellence, the young musicians of the Rushing Middle School |
---|
31 | 31 | | Symphonic Winds have earned their way to an international event of |

32 | 32 | | enormous prestige, and their achievement is a great credit to |
---|
33 | 33 | | Prosper ISD and a source of pride to their families, friends, and |
---|
34 | 34 | | fellow students; now, therefore, be it |

35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

36 | 36 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Rushing Middle School |

37 | 37 | | Symphonic Winds on being invited to perform at the 2023 Midwest |
