| 7 | 7 | | National Tournament, held in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 14 to 16, |

| 8 | 8 | | 2023; and |

| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1895 by Dean Richard Calkins of Drake Law |

| 10 | 10 | | School, the American Mock Trial Association is the governing body |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | for intercollegiate mock trial competitions; these simulations |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | allow students to develop critical thinking and public speaking |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | skills and expand their knowledge of legal practices and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | procedures; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Each season, AMTA hosts 32 regional tournaments, 8 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | opening round championship tournaments, and a national |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | championship tournament, involving some 700 teams from over 400 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | colleges and universities; more than 7,300 undergraduates across |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the country compete during each academic year; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Texas Mock Trial was established in 1991 as UT's |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | official undergraduate mock trial team; over the years, the program |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | has brought home trophies from tournaments all across the country; |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | it earned ninth place in the 2023 AMTA national competition, and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | members Madhavi Subramaniam and Alex Jimenez both received |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | All-American Attorney Awards; just 48 schools qualified to |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | participate at the top level, among them such noted institutions as |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | the University of Chicago and Harvard and Yale Universities; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, The members of Texas Mock Trial dedicated hundreds |

| 29 | 29 | | of hours this year to practice, travel, and competition; in |
