| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Latin teacher Ann Price Ouzts is retiring from |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | MacArthur High School in Irving in June 2023, drawing to a close an |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | extraordinary career in education that has spanned nearly six |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | decades; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Price Ouzts knew early on that she wanted to be a |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | teacher, and as an elementary school student she came home from |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | school and taught her dolls what she had learned that day; in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | college, she noticed how crowded her history and English classes |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | were but how sparsely attended her Latin class was, and came to the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | conclusion that it would be easier to get a job as a Latin |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | instructor; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Price Ouzts began teaching in the 1960s, and in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 1969, she joined the faculty of MacArthur High School, where she has |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | taught Latin ever since; she tried to retire once before but |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | returned within two years, and, at the age of 83, she is the Irving |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Independent School District's only Latin teacher; several of her |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | former students are now veteran teachers in the district |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | themselves; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Over the better part of 60 years, Ann Price Ouzts has |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | provided a positive and inspiring learning environment for |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | generations of young Texans, and she has earned the lasting |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | admiration and affection of all who are privileged to know her; now, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Ann Price Ouzts on her retirement |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | from the Irving Independent School District and bid her a fond |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | farewell and best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it |
