55 WHEREAS, Andrea Linette Rodriguez won first place in the
66 Elementary School Level category at the 2023 Being Bilingual Essay
77 Competition hosted by the National Association for Bilingual
88 Education; and
99 WHEREAS, A third-grade student at Sanchez Elementary School
1010 in the McAllen Independent School District, Andrea was selected as
1111 the winner for her essay titled "The Language of Home," which
1212 describes her experiences growing up in a bilingual environment; in
1313 addition, she was invited to read her essay in both English and
1414 Spanish at the NABE 2023 Awards Luncheon in Portland, Oregon; and
1515 WHEREAS, Andrea is currently enrolled in a dual-language
1616 class at Sanchez Elementary; first established in 2013, the
1717 school's dual-language program teaches students how to read, write,
1818 and speak in both English and Spanish; and
1919 WHEREAS, With her fine showing in the Being Bilingual Essay
2020 Competition, Andrea Rodriguez has brought great credit to her
2121 school and her community, and she may indeed take pride in a job
2222 well done; now, therefore, be it
2323 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2424 Legislature hereby congratulate Andrea Linette Rodriguez on
2525 winning first place in the Elementary School Level category at the
2626 2023 Being Bilingual Essay Competition and extend to her sincere
2727 best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it
2828 further
2929 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3030 prepared for Andrea Rodriguez as an expression of high regard by the
3131 Texas House of Representatives.
