| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A third-grade student at Sanchez Elementary School |

| 10 | 10 | | in the McAllen Independent School District, Andrea was selected as |

| 11 | 11 | | the winner for her essay titled "The Language of Home," which |

| 12 | 12 | | describes her experiences growing up in a bilingual environment; in |

| 13 | 13 | | addition, she was invited to read her essay in both English and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Spanish at the NABE 2023 Awards Luncheon in Portland, Oregon; and |

| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Andrea is currently enrolled in a dual-language |

| 16 | 16 | | class at Sanchez Elementary; first established in 2013, the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | school's dual-language program teaches students how to read, write, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and speak in both English and Spanish; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, With her fine showing in the Being Bilingual Essay |

| 20 | 20 | | Competition, Andrea Rodriguez has brought great credit to her |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | school and her community, and she may indeed take pride in a job |

| 22 | 22 | | well done; now, therefore, be it |

| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
