9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Each month, the nonprofit organization Honored |

10 | 10 | | presents the Honored National Teaching Award to a deserving teacher |

11 | 11 | | in an effort to acknowledge and celebrate exemplary educators |

12 | 12 | | across the country; Ms. Leslie was recognized for the significant |

13 | 13 | | impact that she has had on her students' lives, and as the April |
---|
14 | 14 | | 2023 Honoree, she also received a $5,000 cash award, a profile on |
---|
15 | 15 | | the organization's website, and a $1,000 gift card to support other |
---|
16 | 16 | | teachers through DonorsChoose.org; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Leslie is currently a human resources |
---|
18 | 18 | | management teacher at Sotomayor High, a school for pregnant and |
---|
19 | 19 | | parenting teens; known for her ability to inspire confidence and |
---|
20 | 20 | | for her engaging classroom environment, she provides guidance, |
---|
21 | 21 | | care, and encouragement to her students while teaching a human |
---|
22 | 22 | | relations course that is designed to help them through real life |
---|
23 | 23 | | situations; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Leslie embarked on her career in education 12 |
---|
25 | 25 | | years ago as an after-school coordinator in La Villa ISD, and she |
---|
26 | 26 | | has taught at Sotomayor High for nearly a decade; she holds a |
---|
27 | 27 | | bachelor's degree from Murray State University and a master's |
---|
28 | 28 | | degree from Colorado State University; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, With her passion, dedication, and commitment to |
---|
30 | 30 | | excellence, Teshawn Leslie has earned the lasting respect and |
---|
31 | 31 | | admiration of her colleagues and of the many young Texans whose |
---|
32 | 32 | | lives she has forever enriched; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Teshawn Leslie on receiving an |
