| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Faithful Friends Animal-Assisted Therapy Ministry |

| 6 | 6 | | is dedicated to spreading happiness and comfort through visits with |

| 7 | 7 | | pets; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Faithful Friends was founded in 1993 by Shari |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Ferguson as a ministry of University Baptist Church in Clear Lake |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | City; over the past three decades, the organization has provided |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | myriad opportunities for individuals in challenging situations to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | spend time with animals, and in so doing, it has helped people of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | all ages to improve their well-being and outlook; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Volunteers take properly trained dogs, cats, and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | other animals for visits to local hospitals, support groups, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | other facilities, including schools and nursing homes; they bring |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | their pets to elementary and intermediate schools, where children |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | are provided with an opportunity to practice vocabulary and reading |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | skills by reading to the animals, and they visit long-term care |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | facilities in the area, giving residents a chance to enjoy the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | numerous benefits of interacting with animals on a regular basis; |
|---|

| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The caring volunteers of Faithful Friends |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Animal-Assisted Therapy Ministry work to bring comfort and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | enriching experiences to many people facing difficult |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | circumstances, and they indeed deserve special recognition for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | their good deeds; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 29 | 29 | | Legislature hereby commend Faithful Friends Animal-Assisted |

| 30 | 30 | | Therapy Ministry and extend to its volunteers sincere best wishes |
