| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The modern state of Israel is celebrating the 75th |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | anniversary of its founding in 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, In 1922, the League of Nations adopted a binding |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | resolution recognizing the legal basis for the establishment of the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | modern state of Israel as a home for the Jewish people in the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | historical region of the land of Israel, including the areas of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Judea, Samaria, and eastern Jerusalem; the resolution was |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | subsequently affirmed by both houses of the United States Congress; |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Ruled in ancient times by the kingdom of Israel, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | this region has held a special place in the hearts of Jews for more |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | than two thousand years; while some maintained a Jewish presence in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the land during the long period of exile, members of the global |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | diaspora continued to feel a profound spiritual and emotional |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | connection; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Modern Israel took its place on the world stage on |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | May 14, 1948, following the decimation of European Jewry during the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Holocaust; the creation of the sovereign and independent state of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Israel provided a legally recognized homeland for the Jewish |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | people; in 1949, after Israel held its first election, the United |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | States government established full diplomatic relations with the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | new country; ever since, our nations have remained close allies, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | united by cultural values and strategic interests; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Guided by their own Declaration of Independence, the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | people of Israel have developed a pluralistic, democratic political |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | system, a vibrant society, and an advanced, entrepreneurial |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | economy; the nation has taken in millions of Jews from the diaspora |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | and enjoys peaceful bilateral relations with neighbors in the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | region, including Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain, Morocco, the United Arab |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Emirates, and Sudan; in times of need, it sends humanitarian aid, |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | search and rescue teams, mobile hospitals, and emergency supplies |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | to help the victims of disasters; and |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Texans cherish a special friendship with Israel, and |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | the nation and the Lone Star State have strong economic ties; Israel |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | is one of Texas' strongest partners for trade and investment in the |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | Middle East, and top commodities exchanged include industrial |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | machinery, aircraft parts, and plastics; many Israeli companies |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | currently operate in Texas, notably in the aerospace and energy |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | sectors; and |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | WHEREAS, Texas and Israel share a profound commitment to |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | liberty, independence, and economic opportunity, and this bond is |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | sure to deepen in the years to come; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 48 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 49 | 49 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding |
|---|
| 50 | 50 | | of the modern state of Israel. |
