| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The University of Texas at Arlington Faculty Senate |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding with a special |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | event on May 1, 2023; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The UTA Faculty Senate convened for the first time |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | on September 19, 1973, under the leadership of Dr. Charles |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | McDowell, and within its first year of operation, members had |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | developed an operational philosophy and established their bylaws, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | meeting framework, and committee structure; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, An elected body, the Faculty Senate reviews and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | formulates policies on all matters pertaining to the professional |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | concerns, responsibilities, duties, standards, ethics, privileges, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and perquisites of the UTA faculty, and it represents the faculty to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the UTA administration, as well as to The University of Texas System |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and its board of regents; the senate serves as a place where faculty |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | can resolve their differences through compromise and also acts as |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | an advisory council to the school's president; over the years, the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | senate has successfully implemented a number of initiatives, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | including the Status of Women Committee, which advocated for equal |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | pay for women, the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Education (COACHE) project, and a new faculty Academy of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Distinguished Service Leaders; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Today, the Faculty Senate benefits from the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | leadership of chair Jacqueline Fay and has expanded to include 73 |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | senators from 8 colleges and schools with proportional |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | representation of both tenure-track and non-tenure-track faculty; |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, For half a century, the UTA Faculty Senate has |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | demonstrated an exceptional commitment to ensuring the vitality of |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | the school's teaching and research mission, and it is indeed |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | fitting to recognize its invaluable contributions to the campus |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of The |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | University of Texas at Arlington Faculty Senate and extend to its |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | members sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
