| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Eva Martinez retired as Wilson County clerk in |

| 6 | 6 | | December 2022, drawing to a close an exemplary career that spanned |

| 7 | 7 | | nearly five decades; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Martinez first joined the Wilson County |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Clerk's Office as a temporary staff member in 1974; two months |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | later, she accepted a full-time position, and she was a deputy clerk |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | for four years before her promotion to chief deputy clerk; in 1988, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | when the previous county clerk retired, she was appointed to the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | post, and she subsequently won a special election to fill her |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | predecessor's unexpired term; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In 1990, Mrs. Martinez was elected to her first full |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | term as county clerk, and she was repeatedly returned to office in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the years that followed, ultimately serving in that capacity for |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | more than three decades; over the course of her tenure, she carried |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | out her duties with distinction, and under her leadership the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | county clerk's office modernized its services by making records |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | available online and preserving documents dating back to 1860 in |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | scanned digital archives; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Raised in Floresville, Mrs. Martinez attended |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Sacred Heart Catholic School and Floresville High School; during |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | her youth, she assisted her family in harvesting crops in locations |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | across the country during the summer months, and she was strongly |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | influenced by her late father, Nick Cardenas Silva Jr., who |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | stressed the importance of education and hard work; in all her |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | endeavors, she enjoys the love and support of a fine family that |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | includes her husband of 40 years, B. R., her son, Matthew, and her |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | mother, Cruz; in retirement, she plans to travel extensively, and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | she has been appointed to the board of San Antonio-based Catholic |

| 33 | 33 | | Life Insurance; and |

| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, With her dedication, professionalism, and |

| 35 | 35 | | commitment to excellence, Eva Martinez earned the respect and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | admiration of her colleagues and fellow citizens alike, and she may |

| 37 | 37 | | indeed reflect with pride on a job well done as she begins the next |

| 38 | 38 | | exciting chapter of her life; now, therefore, be it |
