5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Panola College celebrated an important milestone in |

6 | 6 | | its rich history with the commemoration of its 75th anniversary in |
---|
7 | 7 | | 2022; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Panola College was established on June 14, 1947, |
---|
9 | 9 | | with an original enrollment of 55 students, who met for classes in |
---|
10 | 10 | | two temporary buildings; over the years, the institution has grown |
---|
11 | 11 | | into a thriving academic community of more than 2,600 students, and |
---|
12 | 12 | | the 35-acre campus now encompasses student apartments, the Charles |
---|
13 | 13 | | C. Matthews Foundation Student Center, and the state-of-the-art |
---|
14 | 14 | | Health and Natural Sciences Building; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Primarily serving residents of Panola, Harrison, |
---|
16 | 16 | | Marion, and Shelby Counties, Panola College offers a variety of |
---|
17 | 17 | | associate's degree and university transfer programs, as well as |
---|
18 | 18 | | distance learning, workforce training, and continuing education |
---|
19 | 19 | | courses; in addition, students have the opportunity to compete in |
---|
20 | 20 | | rodeo, volleyball, baseball, and basketball, as well as to |
---|
21 | 21 | | participate in a variety of extracurricular offerings, such as fine |
---|
22 | 22 | | arts exhibitions, theatrical productions, and musical |
---|
23 | 23 | | performances; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, The 75th anniversary festivities began with a |
---|
25 | 25 | | dedication ceremony for a Texas Historical Commission historical |
---|
26 | 26 | | marker honoring the college, and the celebration continued with a |
---|
27 | 27 | | number of other events held throughout the fall semester, including |
---|
28 | 28 | | a laser show, a dinner theater, alumni mixers, and a reception and |
---|
29 | 29 | | book signing for the commemorative volume, 75 Years Along the Pony |
---|
30 | 30 | | Trail; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Since its founding 75 years ago, Panola College has |
---|
32 | 32 | | offered generations of students a quality education and a strong |
---|
33 | 33 | | foundation for achievement, and in so doing, it is making an |
---|
34 | 34 | | important contribution to the future of the Lone Star State; now, |
---|
35 | 35 | | therefore, be it |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
37 | 37 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of Panola |
---|
38 | 38 | | College and extend to all those associated with the institution |
---|
39 | 39 | | sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |

40 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
