44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The members of the eighth class of Governor William
66 P. Clements Jr. Scholars have distinguished themselves through
77 their commitment to public service and public policy; and
88 WHEREAS, These young men and women are participating in the
99 Clements Legislative Study Program, which is hosted by the Texas
1010 Conservative Coalition Research Institute; this exemplary program
1111 seeks to train, support, and sustain the next generation of leaders
1212 and public servants, instilling in them the values and work ethic of
1313 former governor William P. Clements Jr.; and
1414 WHEREAS, Governor Clements overcame the misfortunes that
1515 befell his family during the Great Depression to create the world's
1616 largest offshore drilling company; he won an upset victory to
1717 become the state's first Republican governor since Reconstruction,
1818 bringing his business acumen to state government and focusing on
1919 such issues as sound budgeting, crime prevention, and economic
2020 diversification; and
2121 WHEREAS, The Clements Legislative Study Program is the only
2222 program of its kind to bring conservative students to Austin so that
2323 they may gain valuable experience in leadership and public service
2424 by working directly with members of the Texas Legislature; and
2525 WHEREAS, Scholars who have previously completed the Clements
2626 Legislative Study Program now work in a variety of positions in and
2727 around the Texas Legislature, including in the Texas House and
2828 Senate, state agencies, political campaigns, policy research
2929 institutions, and media organizations; and
3030 WHEREAS, The program's eighth class consists of Olivia
3131 Alexander, Morghan Armenta, Sydney Baker, Cameron Castillo,
3232 Mika'ele Castro, Mary Grace Davidson, Bailey Halbert, Noah Huerta,
3333 Jacquelyn Pillow, Zane Prince, Leah Shepherd, Trinity Smith,
3434 Madeline Tillman, and Romana Vargas; and
3535 WHEREAS, By taking part in this special program, the members
3636 of Governor William P. Clements Jr. Scholars are furthering their
3737 understanding of civics, government, and history, and the knowledge
3838 and skills they learn from their time at the Texas Capitol will
3939 serve them well in the years ahead; now, therefore, be it
4040 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4141 Legislature hereby commend the members of the eighth class of
4242 Governor William P. Clements Jr. Scholars for their dedication to
4343 public policy and for their service to their state and nation and
4444 extend to them sincere best wishes for success in all their future
4545 endeavors; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4747 prepared for the class as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4848 House of Representatives.
