| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The members of Daniels Cross Elks Lodge No. 1578 in |

| 7 | 7 | | organization's rededication in memory of Olious Donald Evans Sr.; |

|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Part of the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | of Elks of the World, the largest predominantly Black fraternal |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | organization in the world, Daniels Cross Elks Lodge No. 1578 was |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | founded in 1967 with 25 inaugural members; named in honor of William |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | A. Daniels and John Cross, the organization works to promote the |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | principles of charity, justice, brotherly love, and fidelity; its |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | many contributions to the Dallas area include providing annual |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | scholarships for deserving local students and offering outreach to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | youth community centers, churches, organized sports, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | educational institutions; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The organization's new name, Daniels Cross Evans |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Elks Lodge No. 1578, pays tribute to the legacy of a longtime member |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | of the lodge; after joining in 1968, O. D. Evans held a number of |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | leadership positions with the organization, including financial |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | secretary, grand esteemed loyal knight, grand esteemed lecturing |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | knight, and council trustee; moreover, he was elected exalted ruler |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | in 1996 and continued to serve in the role for more than two |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | decades; he was also state president of the Texas Elks State |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Association from 1998 until his passing in 2021; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, the lodge's members have maintained |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | a proud tradition of service and fellowship, and it is a privilege |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | to join in recognizing the organization on this important milestone |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | in its history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the rededication of Daniels Cross |

| 34 | 34 | | Evans Elks Lodge No. 1578 in Dallas and extend to its members |
