| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Lloyd Verstuyft is retiring as superintendent |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | of the Southwest Independent School District in June 2023, drawing |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | to a close an outstanding tenure that has spanned nearly a decade |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and a half; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A former student of Southwest High School, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Dr. Verstuyft began his career with Southwest ISD as a teacher and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | coach, and he went on to serve as a middle school and high school |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | principal; he later took on the role of executive director of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | administration and pupil service, and he subsequently became |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | assistant superintendent for administration and human resources; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | over the years, he played an instrumental role in helping Southwest |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | ISD campuses obtain state and national honors; since 2009, he has |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | led the district as superintendent of schools, and his guidance has |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | benefited thousands of students across 11 elementary schools, 4 |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | middle schools, and 3 high schools; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Among his many achievements, Dr. Verstuyft received |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the 2019 Education Service Center Region 20 Superintendent of the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Year award from the Texas Association of School Boards; he has |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | served as a board member for the San Antonio Education Partnership |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | program and as co-chair of San Antonio's Diplomas Project, and he |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | has been involved with the P16 Plus Executive Committee for Greater |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | San Antonio as well as the steering committee for the Bexar County |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Go Public Campaign; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Verstuyft holds a bachelor's degree from The |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | University of Texas at San Antonio, a master's degree in |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | educational administration from Texas A&M University-Kingsville, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | and a doctorate from Texas A&M University in College Station; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Through his dedication, expertise, and commitment |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | to excellence, Dr. Lloyd Verstuyft has helped many young Texans |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed, and his |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | contributions will be remembered and appreciated for years to come; |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Lloyd Verstuyft on his |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | retirement as superintendent of Southwest ISD and extend to him |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
