5	5	WHEREAS, The Seven Lakes High School boys' soccer team proved
6	6	itself one of the finest in Texas by winning the University
7	7	Interscholastic League 6A state championship on April 15, 2023, at
8	8	Birkelbach Field in Georgetown; and
9	9	WHEREAS, The championship victory closed out an
10	10	unforgettable year in which the Spartans compiled an exceptional
11	11	overall record of 28 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie; after claiming the
12	12	District 19-6A title, they carried their momentum into the
13	13	postseason, defeating Fort Bend Austin 2-0 in the opening round of
14	14	the playoffs; subsequent victories over Houston Bellaire, Katy
15	15	Cinco Ranch, League City Clear Springs, and Pasadena Dobie High
16	16	Schools secured the team's spot in the state tournament for the
17	17	second consecutive season; in the semifinals against Garland Sachse
18	18	High School, the Spartans scored twice in overtime to claim a berth
19	19	in the title game; and
20	20	WHEREAS, Seven Lakes matched up with Dripping Springs High
21	21	School with the state crown on the line; following a closely
22	22	contested first half, the Spartans snapped a scoreless deadlock in
23	23	the 55th minute and knocked in a second goal at the 62-minute mark;
24	24	Dripping Springs answered a short time later, but the Spartans'
25	25	defense held their opponent at bay the rest of the way to seal a 2-1
26	26	victory; with the triumph, the Seven Lakes players secured the
27	27	first soccer state title in school history; and
28	28	WHEREAS, The Spartans were led by Hunter Merritt, the
29	29	championship game Most Valuable Player, who was joined by Gabriel
30	30	Gonzalez, Aidan Morrison, and Ben Aviles Vera on the 6A
31	31	All-Tournament Team; Seven Lakes also received valuable
32	32	contributions throughout the year from the other members of the
33	33	roster: Pato Valez, Diego Flamenco, Javier Mestre, Noah Peterson,
34	34	Kortay Koc, Noa Stasic, Abdullah Soliman, Daniel Ejerenwa, Cameron
35	35	Born, Jesus Duque, Fernando Lazo, Eduardo Davalillo, Sean Carlos
36	36	Rivera, Shikhar Gupta, Sebastian Ranz, Alexis Matute, Jack
37	37	Robertson, Daniel Farias, Josh Taylor, and Tanner Smith; these
38	38	talented student-athletes benefited from the able leadership of
39	39	head coach Jimmy Krueger and assistant coaches Darryl Metcalfe and
40	40	Jay Kolkman, and the team also received enthusiastic support from
41	41	principal Kerri Finnesand and athletic director Jimmy Hamon; and
42	42	WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
43	43	culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
44	44	commitment to excellence, and the members of the Seven Lakes
45	45	Spartans soccer team will treasure the memory of this
46	46	accomplishment for the rest of their lives; now, therefore, be it
47	47	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
48	48	Legislature hereby congratulate the Seven Lakes High School boys'
49	49	soccer team on winning the 2023 UIL 6A state championship and extend
50	50	to the team's players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for
51	51	continued success; and, be it further
52	52	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
53	53	prepared for the Spartans as an expression of high regard by the
54	54	Texas House of Representatives.
