44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort
66 those saddened by the passing of Dr. Bruce Jacobson on January 13,
77 2023, at the age of 96; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Alfred and Emma Jacobson, Bruce Jacobson
99 was born in 1926, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and he grew up with the
1010 companionship of four siblings, Don, Inez, Joyce, and Roman;
1111 answering his nation's call to duty, he joined the United States
1212 Navy at the age of 17, serving on the destroyer Donald W. Wolf
1313 during World War II; returning to civilian life, he enrolled at
1414 Texas Christian University, where he graduated with honors, and he
1515 completed his education at Baylor Medical School; and
1616 WHEREAS, Dr. Jacobson began his medical career as a resident
1717 at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, and in the 1950s, he and
1818 several partners opened a private practice clinic in North Richland
1919 Hills; he went on to establish Glenview Hospital, which later
2020 became North Hills Hospital; in the 1970s and 1980s, he oversaw the
2121 family medicine program at Southwestern Medical School; and
2222 WHEREAS, This esteemed physician was president of the Tarrant
2323 County Medical Society and president of the staff at John Peter
2424 Smith Hospital, and in 1982, he was appointed by Ronald Reagan to
2525 the President's Commission on Biomedical Ethics; moreover,
2626 Governor Rick Perry appointed him as an admiral in the Texas Navy;
2727 and
2828 WHEREAS, Active in his community, Dr. Jacobson was a member
2929 of the Birdville Independent School District Board of Trustees and
3030 the board of the Bank of North Texas, and he served as team doctor
3131 for the Richland High School football team; a man of deep faith, he
3232 helped to establish Peace Lutheran Church in Hurst; and
3333 WHEREAS, Dr. Jacobson shared a fulfilling union with his
3434 first wife, Pat, that spanned 57 years until her passing in 2004;
3535 fortunate to find love again, he married Linda Morrow, and the
3636 couple enjoyed 15 years together; he took great pride in his seven
3737 children, Lynn, Jan, Julie, Bruce, Michael, Jennifer, and Eric, and
3838 he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include two
3939 stepdaughters, Melanie and Melissa, and numerous grandchildren and
4040 great-grandchildren; he liked to play golf, travel in his
4141 motorhome, and write poetry, and in retirement, he raised Appaloosa
4242 and thoroughbred horses; and
4343 WHEREAS, Bruce Jacobson possessed a generosity of spirit that
4444 expressed itself in myriad ways, and he enriched the lives of
4545 countless people with his warmth and kindness; now, therefore, be
4646 it
4747 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4848 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Bruce Jacobson
4949 and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be
5050 it further
5151 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5252 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5353 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Bruce
5454 Jacobson.
