5	5	WHEREAS, Memories of a life well lived may help to comfort
6	6	those saddened by the passing of Dr. Bruce Jacobson on January 13,
7	7	2023, at the age of 96; and
8	8	WHEREAS, The son of Alfred and Emma Jacobson, Bruce Jacobson
9	9	was born in 1926, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and he grew up with the
10	10	companionship of four siblings, Don, Inez, Joyce, and Roman;
11	11	answering his nation's call to duty, he joined the United States
12	12	Navy at the age of 17, serving on the destroyer Donald W. Wolf
13	13	during World War II; returning to civilian life, he enrolled at
14	14	Texas Christian University, where he graduated with honors, and he
15	15	completed his education at Baylor Medical School; and
16	16	WHEREAS, Dr. Jacobson began his medical career as a resident
17	17	at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, and in the 1950s, he and
18	18	several partners opened a private practice clinic in North Richland
19	19	Hills; he went on to establish Glenview Hospital, which later
20	20	became North Hills Hospital; in the 1970s and 1980s, he oversaw the
21	21	family medicine program at Southwestern Medical School; and
22	22	WHEREAS, This esteemed physician was president of the Tarrant
23	23	County Medical Society and president of the staff at John Peter
24	24	Smith Hospital, and in 1982, he was appointed by Ronald Reagan to
25	25	the President's Commission on Biomedical Ethics; moreover,
26	26	Governor Rick Perry appointed him as an admiral in the Texas Navy;
27	27	and
28	28	WHEREAS, Active in his community, Dr. Jacobson was a member
29	29	of the Birdville Independent School District Board of Trustees and
30	30	the board of the Bank of North Texas, and he served as team doctor
31	31	for the Richland High School football team; a man of deep faith, he
32	32	helped to establish Peace Lutheran Church in Hurst; and
33	33	WHEREAS, Dr. Jacobson shared a fulfilling union with his
34	34	first wife, Pat, that spanned 57 years until her passing in 2004;
35	35	fortunate to find love again, he married Linda Morrow, and the
36	36	couple enjoyed 15 years together; he took great pride in his seven
37	37	children, Lynn, Jan, Julie, Bruce, Michael, Jennifer, and Eric, and
38	38	he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include two
39	39	stepdaughters, Melanie and Melissa, and numerous grandchildren and
40	40	great-grandchildren; he liked to play golf, travel in his
41	41	motorhome, and write poetry, and in retirement, he raised Appaloosa
42	42	and thoroughbred horses; and
43	43	WHEREAS, Bruce Jacobson possessed a generosity of spirit that
44	44	expressed itself in myriad ways, and he enriched the lives of
45	45	countless people with his warmth and kindness; now, therefore, be
46	46	it
47	47	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
48	48	Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Bruce Jacobson
49	49	and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be
50	50	it further
51	51	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
52	52	prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
53	53	Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Bruce
54	54	Jacobson.
