| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Davis Elementary School in the Plano Independent |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | School District is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023; and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1972, the school is named for the |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | late Olney Davis, an accomplished business leader and two-term |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | mayor of Plano; his myriad contributions to the community included |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | organizing two local banks and serving as the first president of the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Plano school board; he was also an active member of First Christian |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Church of Plano; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Today, Davis Elementary serves hundreds of students |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | in the Plano area, and it has been designated as a regional school |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | for the deaf; among its many honors, the campus was recognized as a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | and it has received numerous accolades from Texas PTA, including |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the President's Challenge Award, the Spring Increase Award, and the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Voice for Every Child Silver Award; the school currently benefits |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | from the able leadership of its principal, Karma Cunningham, and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | assistant principal, Diana Wetzel; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, For the past five decades, Davis Elementary School |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | has provided its students with a strong educational foundation on |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | which to build, and it has made a positive and lasting difference in |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the lives of generations of Plano residents; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of Davis |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Elementary School and extend to all those associated with the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | school sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | House of Representatives. |
