5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Bill Waters is retiring as principal of Central High |

6 | 6 | | School in the San Angelo Independent School District at the end of |

7 | 7 | | the 2022-2023 school year, drawing to a close an exemplary career |
---|
8 | 8 | | that has spanned more than three decades in public education; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A graduate of Angelo State University, Mr. Waters |
---|
10 | 10 | | holds a bachelor's degree in science and math, a master's degree in |
---|
11 | 11 | | middle management, and superintendent certification; he joined |
---|
12 | 12 | | SAISD right out of college and taught math at Edison Junior High and |
---|
13 | 13 | | Glenn Middle Schools; a skilled administrator, he served for nine |
---|
14 | 14 | | years as principal of Glenn Middle School before his appointment as |
---|
15 | 15 | | principal of Central High in 2008; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Waters earned regional honors from the Texas |
---|
17 | 17 | | Association of Secondary School Principals in 2012, and he received |
---|
18 | 18 | | a 2021 Distinguished Administrator Award from the Texas Music |
---|
19 | 19 | | Educators Association; under his enthusiastic leadership, fine |
---|
20 | 20 | | arts programs have flourished at Central, with many award-winning |
---|
21 | 21 | | seasons in University Interscholastic League and TMEA competition; |
---|
22 | 22 | | he has worked tirelessly to engage students and spark a passion for |
---|
23 | 23 | | learning, and he has championed extracurricular activities, from |
---|
24 | 24 | | football to orchestra, that allow youngsters to explore their |
---|
25 | 25 | | interests and connect with others; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Known for his empathy and approachability, |
---|
27 | 27 | | Mr. Waters has taken strong stands for the well-being of students |
---|
28 | 28 | | and teachers alike; his powerful speech warning of heightened |
---|
29 | 29 | | pressures on youth and faculty in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic |
---|
30 | 30 | | struck a chord with educators across the state and went viral on |
---|
31 | 31 | | social media; in all his endeavors, he enjoys the love and support |
---|
32 | 32 | | of his wife, Jody, also employed by SAISD, and their two children, |
---|
33 | 33 | | Jordan and Wyatt, both Central High alumni; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his long career, Bill Waters has |
---|
35 | 35 | | exemplified the highest ideals of his profession, fostering a |
---|
36 | 36 | | dynamic, nurturing environment to help generations of students |
---|
37 | 37 | | build a strong foundation for success; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Bill Waters on his retirement from |
---|
40 | 40 | | the San Angelo Independent School District and extend to him |
---|
41 | 41 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
