55 WHEREAS, The City of Temple is celebrating the 75th
66 anniversary of Draughon-Miller Central Texas Regional Airport and
77 the opening of the airport's new terminal with an air show on May
88 13, 2023; and
99 WHEREAS, The Draughon-Miller airport can trace its origins to
1010 1942, when the United States Army Air Forces began construction of
1111 Temple Army Air Field, a sub-base of Waco Army Air Field that served
1212 as a basic flying school during World War II; turned over to the
1313 City of Temple in 1946, the airfield was revamped and renamed in
1414 honor of two Temple pilots who died in the course of the war, Cadet
1515 Miller Draughon and Lieutenant Raymond Miller Jr.; and
1616 WHEREAS, The Draughon-Miller 75th Anniversary Airshow pays
1717 tribute to the members of the Greatest Generation, with
1818 performances by a World War II bomber and training aircraft and
1919 period-appropriate airborne paratroopers; the event also features
2020 modern minijets and displays from Fort Hood and the Texas National
2121 Guard; moreover, attendees can enjoy airplane and helicopter rides
2222 and take advantage of the available beer gardens, food trucks, and
2323 children's activities; and
2424 WHEREAS, A fun occasion for all ages, this thrilling event
2525 presents an opportunity to witness some spectacular aerial
2626 acrobatics, and it promises to be a source of fond memories for all
2727 those in attendance; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2929 Legislature hereby commemorate the Draughon-Miller 75th
3030 Anniversary Airshow and extend to its organizers and attendees
3131 sincere best wishes for a successful and enjoyable event.
