5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Teaching is a profession that calls for character, |

6 | 6 | | passion, and commitment, and Dr. Ramon C. Benavides has |
---|
7 | 7 | | demonstrated these qualities in abundance throughout his 12-year |
---|
8 | 8 | | career with the Ysleta Independent School District; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Benavides currently teaches 9th- through |
---|
10 | 10 | | 12th-grade biology classes at Del Valle High School in El Paso, and |
---|
11 | 11 | | over the course of his tenure, he has distinguished himself as a |
---|
12 | 12 | | caring and supportive mentor to his students; he played an |
---|
13 | 13 | | instrumental role in establishing the school's biomed and biotech |
---|
14 | 14 | | pathway, and he has overseen the Medical Sciences Club, the |
---|
15 | 15 | | Environmental Stewardship Club, the Anime Club, and the Science |
---|
16 | 16 | | National Honor Society chapter; in recognition of his dedicated |
---|
17 | 17 | | efforts in the classroom, he was named the 2022 Texas State Teacher |
---|
18 | 18 | | of the Year by the Council of Chief State School Officers; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his work as an educator at Del Valle |
---|
20 | 20 | | High School, Dr. Benavides has served as a grant writer and |
---|
21 | 21 | | coordinator for Ysleta ISD as well as a part-time biology adjunct |
---|
22 | 22 | | instructor at El Paso Community College; he has also participated |
---|
23 | 23 | | in Research Experiences for Teachers, authoring scholarly articles |
---|
24 | 24 | | related to science education and teacher leadership; moreover, he |
---|
25 | 25 | | has been involved with numerous professional and civic |
---|
26 | 26 | | organizations, including the Texas State Teachers Association, the |
---|
27 | 27 | | National Education Agency, the Ysleta Teachers Association, the |
---|
28 | 28 | | Eastside Democrats, and the League of Women Voters of El Paso, and |
---|
29 | 29 | | he cofounded Pareja PhD, where he serves as a motivational speaker; |
---|
30 | 30 | | and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Benavides holds a bachelor's degree in biology |
---|
32 | 32 | | from The University of Texas at San Antonio, a bachelor's degree in |
---|
33 | 33 | | chemistry from The University of Texas at Brownsville, a master's |
---|
34 | 34 | | degree in teaching science from The University of Texas at El Paso, |
---|
35 | 35 | | and a doctorate in educational leadership policy from Texas Tech |
---|
36 | 36 | | University; and |
---|
37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Ramon Benavides has made a lasting and positive |
---|
38 | 38 | | difference in the lives of countless students in Ysleta ISD, and he |
---|
39 | 39 | | is indeed deserving of special recognition for his outstanding |
---|
40 | 40 | | contributions; now, therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
42 | 42 | | Legislature hereby commend Dr. Ramon C. Benavides for his exemplary |
---|
43 | 43 | | service to the Ysleta Independent School District and extend to him |
---|
44 | 44 | | sincere best wishes for continued success with his important work; |
