44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, The family and friends of Tessa RaeShun Pettigrew
66 suffered an immeasurable loss with her death on March 31, 2023, at
77 the age of 45; and
88 WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, the former Tessa Birdine was
99 born to Melba McGaha and Homer Lavern Birdine Sr. on August 17,
1010 1977, and grew up sharing in the companionship of two brothers,
1111 Homer and Tyson; she graduated from Berkner High School in
1212 Richardson in 1995 and went on to study fashion merchandising and
1313 business at the University of North Texas; she later earned a
1414 master's degree in education; and
1515 WHEREAS, Mrs. Pettigrew worked for a number of companies,
1616 including Zales, JCPenney, and One Technologies before discovering
1717 her passion for teaching; she began her career in education at
1818 Berkner High School in 2008, and during her time there, she mentored
1919 new teachers, taught marketing and business courses, and took part
2020 in the dance team, AVID, and DECA programs; she subsequently served
2121 as an assistant principal at Forest Meadow Junior High School and as
2222 a department chair and principal at Lake Highlands High School; and
2323 WHEREAS, On July 10, 2004, she married Nathaniel Pettigrew,
2424 and she took great pride in her children, Tre, Joshe, Mason, Anaula,
2525 and Brielle, and her grandchildren, Tre, Avianna, Myles, and
2626 Mallory; moreover, she was a valued member of New Mount Zion Baptist
2727 Church; and
2828 WHEREAS, Although Tessa Pettigrew is greatly missed, this
2929 beloved woman has left her family and friends with many cherished
3030 memories, and she will forever hold a special place in their hearts;
3131 now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3333 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Tessa RaeShun
3434 Pettigrew and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her
3535 family: to her husband, Nathaniel Pettigrew; to her mother, Melba
3636 McGaha; to her children, Tre and Joshe Jackson and Mason, Anaula,
3737 and Brielle Pettigrew; to her grandchildren, Tre, Avianna, Myles,
3838 and Mallory Jackson; to her brothers, Homer Lavern Birdine Jr. and
3939 Tyson Timms; and to her many other relatives and friends; and, be it
4040 further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4242 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4343 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Tessa
4444 Pettigrew.
