5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The family and friends of Tessa RaeShun Pettigrew |

6 | 6 | | suffered an immeasurable loss with her death on March 31, 2023, at |

7 | 7 | | the age of 45; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, the former Tessa Birdine was |
---|
9 | 9 | | born to Melba McGaha and Homer Lavern Birdine Sr. on August 17, |
---|
10 | 10 | | 1977, and grew up sharing in the companionship of two brothers, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Homer and Tyson; she graduated from Berkner High School in |
---|
12 | 12 | | Richardson in 1995 and went on to study fashion merchandising and |
---|
13 | 13 | | business at the University of North Texas; she later earned a |
---|
14 | 14 | | master's degree in education; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Pettigrew worked for a number of companies, |
---|
16 | 16 | | including Zales, JCPenney, and One Technologies before discovering |
---|
17 | 17 | | her passion for teaching; she began her career in education at |
---|
18 | 18 | | Berkner High School in 2008, and during her time there, she mentored |
---|
19 | 19 | | new teachers, taught marketing and business courses, and took part |
---|
20 | 20 | | in the dance team, AVID, and DECA programs; she subsequently served |
---|
21 | 21 | | as an assistant principal at Forest Meadow Junior High School and as |
---|
22 | 22 | | a department chair and principal at Lake Highlands High School; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, On July 10, 2004, she married Nathaniel Pettigrew, |
---|
24 | 24 | | and she took great pride in her children, Tre, Joshe, Mason, Anaula, |
---|
25 | 25 | | and Brielle, and her grandchildren, Tre, Avianna, Myles, and |
---|
26 | 26 | | Mallory; moreover, she was a valued member of New Mount Zion Baptist |
---|
27 | 27 | | Church; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Although Tessa Pettigrew is greatly missed, this |
---|
29 | 29 | | beloved woman has left her family and friends with many cherished |
---|
30 | 30 | | memories, and she will forever hold a special place in their hearts; |

31 | 31 | | now, therefore, be it |

32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Tessa RaeShun |

34 | 34 | | Pettigrew and extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of her |

35 | 35 | | family: to her husband, Nathaniel Pettigrew; to her mother, Melba |
