44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt by
66 the family, friends, and colleagues of Dr. Matthew J. Mann of
77 Pleasanton, who passed away on November 20, 2021, at the age of 49;
88 and
99 WHEREAS, The son of Kayla McKinney Mann and Anthony Mann,
1010 Matt Mann was born in Lafayette, Indiana, and his family included
1111 two brothers, Jason and Bill; as a result of his father's various
1212 military postings, he lived in Germany, Hawaii, California, and
1313 Colorado during his youth, and he graduated from Widefield High
1414 School in Colorado Springs; he met his future wife, Sara, while
1515 attending Adams State University; the couple married in 1994, and
1616 they became the parents of two daughters, Kaytlyn and Emily; and
1717 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Mann completed their student teaching
1818 in the San Luis Valley in Colorado, and he began his career with the
1919 Sierra Grande School District; they then moved to Pleasanton, and
2020 after a stint working with his in-laws in the produce industry,
2121 Mr. Mann taught at Samuel Clemens High School and later at East
2222 Central High School; in 2001, he became assistant principal at
2323 Scobee Middle School, a position he also held at Jourdanton Junior
2424 High School; over the years, he earned a master's degree and
2525 doctorate from Texas A&M University-Kingsville and published four
2626 articles on educational topics; and
2727 WHEREAS, Dr. Mann became principal of Pleasanton High School
2828 in 2012 and was named superintendent of the district three years
2929 later; under his leadership, all four Pleasanton Independent School
3030 District campuses earned high commendations; deeply committed to
3131 literary initiatives, he read each week to a class at the elementary
3232 school and purchased every student on the campus a book that he
3333 would inscribe with a note; he was admired for his unique ability to
3434 connect with students and make them feel valued; and
3535 WHEREAS, In addition to his many professional achievements,
3636 Dr. Mann was a youth soccer coach for 10 years and an active member
3737 of the local Rotary club and MacArthur Park Church of Christ; he
3838 previously served as a deacon at Pleasanton Church of Christ, and in
3939 2017, he was named Pleasanton Man of the Year; and
4040 WHEREAS, An inspiring educator and administrator, Matt Mann
4141 made a positive difference in the lives of countless students, and
4242 his contributions will be remembered and admired for years to come;
4343 now, therefore, be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4545 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Matthew J. Mann
4646 and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends; and,
4747 be it further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4949 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5050 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Matt Mann.
