5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt by |

6 | 6 | | the family, friends, and colleagues of Dr. Matthew J. Mann of |
---|
7 | 7 | | Pleasanton, who passed away on November 20, 2021, at the age of 49; |
---|
8 | 8 | | and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Kayla McKinney Mann and Anthony Mann, |
---|
10 | 10 | | Matt Mann was born in Lafayette, Indiana, and his family included |
---|
11 | 11 | | two brothers, Jason and Bill; as a result of his father's various |
---|
12 | 12 | | military postings, he lived in Germany, Hawaii, California, and |
---|
13 | 13 | | Colorado during his youth, and he graduated from Widefield High |
---|
14 | 14 | | School in Colorado Springs; he met his future wife, Sara, while |
---|
15 | 15 | | attending Adams State University; the couple married in 1994, and |
---|
16 | 16 | | they became the parents of two daughters, Kaytlyn and Emily; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Mann completed their student teaching |
---|
18 | 18 | | in the San Luis Valley in Colorado, and he began his career with the |
---|
19 | 19 | | Sierra Grande School District; they then moved to Pleasanton, and |
---|
20 | 20 | | after a stint working with his in-laws in the produce industry, |
---|
21 | 21 | | Mr. Mann taught at Samuel Clemens High School and later at East |
---|
22 | 22 | | Central High School; in 2001, he became assistant principal at |
---|
23 | 23 | | Scobee Middle School, a position he also held at Jourdanton Junior |
---|
24 | 24 | | High School; over the years, he earned a master's degree and |
---|
25 | 25 | | doctorate from Texas A&M University-Kingsville and published four |
---|
26 | 26 | | articles on educational topics; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mann became principal of Pleasanton High School |
---|
28 | 28 | | in 2012 and was named superintendent of the district three years |
---|
29 | 29 | | later; under his leadership, all four Pleasanton Independent School |
---|
30 | 30 | | District campuses earned high commendations; deeply committed to |
---|
31 | 31 | | literary initiatives, he read each week to a class at the elementary |
---|
32 | 32 | | school and purchased every student on the campus a book that he |
---|
33 | 33 | | would inscribe with a note; he was admired for his unique ability to |
---|
34 | 34 | | connect with students and make them feel valued; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his many professional achievements, |
---|
36 | 36 | | Dr. Mann was a youth soccer coach for 10 years and an active member |
---|
37 | 37 | | of the local Rotary club and MacArthur Park Church of Christ; he |
---|
38 | 38 | | previously served as a deacon at Pleasanton Church of Christ, and in |
---|
39 | 39 | | 2017, he was named Pleasanton Man of the Year; and |
---|
40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, An inspiring educator and administrator, Matt Mann |
---|
41 | 41 | | made a positive difference in the lives of countless students, and |
---|
42 | 42 | | his contributions will be remembered and admired for years to come; |
---|
43 | 43 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
45 | 45 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Matthew J. Mann |
---|
46 | 46 | | and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and many friends; and, |
---|
47 | 47 | | be it further |
---|
48 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
49 | 49 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
50 | 50 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Matt Mann. |
