5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Diana Pérez Gomez is commencing her term as |

6 | 6 | | 2023-2024 president of the Houston Bar Association on May 11, 2023; |

8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The first Latina to lead the organization, |

9 | 9 | | Mrs. Gomez was named to the board of directors in 2014; she has |
---|
10 | 10 | | served the HBA as chair of numerous committees, including the |
---|
11 | 11 | | judicial polls and employment and personnel committees; in |
---|
12 | 12 | | addition, she has held many other leadership roles, including |
---|
13 | 13 | | co-chair of District 4 of the Texas Bar Foundation and president of |
---|
14 | 14 | | the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston, and board member for the |
---|
15 | 15 | | Mexican-American Bar Association of Houston; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Gomez is a shareholder in the Houston office of |
---|
17 | 17 | | the Chamberlain Hrdlicka firm and serves on its board of directors; |
---|
18 | 18 | | moreover, she is the national co-chair for the labor and employment |
---|
19 | 19 | | practice and both the pro bono and women in the law committees; |
---|
20 | 20 | | highly experienced in civil litigation in both state and federal |
---|
21 | 21 | | courts, she focuses on complex labor and employment disputes; her |
---|
22 | 22 | | career also includes government service for the City of Houston, |
---|
23 | 23 | | Harris County, and, by presidential appointment, the U.S. |
---|
24 | 24 | | Department of Education; she holds a bachelor's degree in political |
---|
25 | 25 | | science from Texas A&M University and a law degree from The |
---|
26 | 26 | | University of Texas at Austin; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The recipient of myriad accolades, Mrs. Gomez has |
---|
28 | 28 | | won two President's Awards from the HBA and four President's Awards |
---|
29 | 29 | | from HisBA, and she is a life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, |

30 | 30 | | Texas Bar Foundation, and Houston Bar Foundation; every year since |

31 | 31 | | 2013, she has been named to the Texas Super Lawyers list; she has |

32 | 32 | | received multiple Top Lawyer honors from Houstonia magazine, and |

33 | 33 | | she was listed among Houston Business Journal's 2022 Women Who Mean |

34 | 34 | | Business and Houston Woman Magazine's Houston's 50 Most Influential |

35 | 35 | | Women of 2020-2021; recently, she and her husband, Judge Michael |

36 | 36 | | Gomez, were featured in the "Profile in Professionalism: Law in the |

39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Diana Gomez has greatly benefited the Houston Bar |
