55 WHEREAS, The Georgetown High School girls' soccer team
66 enjoyed exceptional success in 2023, capping the year with a
77 coveted berth in the University Interscholastic League Soccer State
88 Championships; and
99 WHEREAS, Following an undefeated regular-season run during
1010 which they won the district title, the Lady Eagles continued to
1111 excel in the playoffs; they opened with an 8-0 blowout against
1212 Northeast Early College High School and followed with victories
1313 over Lake Belton, Magnolia, and Barbers Hill; and
1414 WHEREAS, In the regional final, the Lady Eagles met Belton
1515 High School in a dramatic showdown that remained deadlocked 1-1
1616 through two overtime periods; Georgetown emerged triumphant by a
1717 7-6 count in the shootout to claim its first regional championship
1818 and its inaugural trip to the state final four; in the 5A
1919 semifinals, the Lady Eagles faced off against Frisco High School;
2020 though Georgetown's season came to an end in a hard-fought loss, the
2121 players established a new standard of excellence by reaching the
2222 state tournament and by setting school records for the most
2323 victories in a season, with 25, and the most goals scored, with 104;
2424 and
2525 WHEREAS, The Lady Eagles were paced by Addie Russu, who set a
2626 single-season mark with 27 goals, and by Mycah Morrow, who tallied a
2727 record 20 assists; Georgetown also received valuable contributions
2828 from the other members of the roster: Mckenna Villarreal, Neliaj
2929 Deleon, Valeria Fernandez, Avery Linck, Anna Bruchmiller, Galilea

3737 outstanding career that has spanned a total of 45 years at the high
3838 school and college levels; the Lady Eagles also received vital
3939 support from assistant coaches Eduardo Venegas, Elise Lutz, and
4040 Amanda Feely, athletic trainers Chad Hennessey and Vanessa Redeaux,
4141 student trainer Piper Elliot, managers Avery Arnold and Ana Mendes,
4242 girls' athletic coordinator Rhonda Farney, athletic director Jason
4343 Dean, and principal Brian Johnson; and
4444 WHEREAS, The Georgetown Lady Eagles have earned the
4545 admiration of their fellow students and their many community
4646 supporters, and they may indeed reflect with great pride on a job
4747 well done; now, therefore, be it
4848 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4949 Legislature hereby congratulate the Georgetown High School girls'
5050 soccer team on its achievements during the 2023 season and extend to
5151 the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for the future;
5252 and, be it further
5353 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5454 prepared for the Lady Eagles as an expression of high regard by the
5555 Texas House of Representatives.
