5	5		WHEREAS, The Georgetown High School girls' soccer team
6	6		enjoyed exceptional success in 2023, capping the year with a
7	7		coveted berth in the University Interscholastic League Soccer State
8	8		Championships; and
9	9		WHEREAS, Following an undefeated regular-season run during
10	10		which they won the district title, the Lady Eagles continued to
11	11		excel in the playoffs; they opened with an 8-0 blowout against
12	12		Northeast Early College High School and followed with victories
13	13		over Lake Belton, Magnolia, and Barbers Hill; and
14	14		WHEREAS, In the regional final, the Lady Eagles met Belton
15	15		High School in a dramatic showdown that remained deadlocked 1-1
16	16		through two overtime periods; Georgetown emerged triumphant by a
17	17		7-6 count in the shootout to claim its first regional championship
18	18		and its inaugural trip to the state final four; in the 5A
19	19		semifinals, the Lady Eagles faced off against Frisco High School;
20	20		though Georgetown's season came to an end in a hard-fought loss, the
21	21		players established a new standard of excellence by reaching the
22	22		state tournament and by setting school records for the most
23	23		victories in a season, with 25, and the most goals scored, with 104;
24	24		and
25	25		WHEREAS, The Lady Eagles were paced by Addie Russu, who set a
26	26		single-season mark with 27 goals, and by Mycah Morrow, who tallied a
27	27		record 20 assists; Georgetown also received valuable contributions
28	28		from the other members of the roster: Mckenna Villarreal, Neliaj
29	29		Deleon, Valeria Fernandez, Avery Linck, Anna Bruchmiller, Galilea
30	30		Martinez, Ambrey Heath, Kate Cowley, Emma Dean, Emma Gilliland,

35	35		WHEREAS, These talented student-athletes were ably directed
36	36		by head coach Sam McCutchen, who is retiring in 2023 after an
37	37		outstanding career that has spanned a total of 45 years at the high
38	38		school and college levels; the Lady Eagles also received vital
39	39		support from assistant coaches Eduardo Venegas, Elise Lutz, and
40	40		Amanda Feely, athletic trainers Chad Hennessey and Vanessa Redeaux,
41	41		student trainer Piper Elliot, managers Avery Arnold and Ana Mendes,
42	42		girls' athletic coordinator Rhonda Farney, athletic director Jason
43	43		Dean, and principal Brian Johnson; and
44	44		WHEREAS, The Georgetown Lady Eagles have earned the
45	45		admiration of their fellow students and their many community
46	46		supporters, and they may indeed reflect with great pride on a job
47	47		well done; now, therefore, be it
48	48		RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
49	49		Legislature hereby congratulate the Georgetown High School girls'
50	50		soccer team on its achievements during the 2023 season and extend to
51	51		the players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for the future;
52	52		and, be it further
53	53		RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
54	54		prepared for the Lady Eagles as an expression of high regard by the
55	55		Texas House of Representatives.
