5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Residents of Live Oak County are gathering in Austin |
---|
6 | 6 | | on February 8, 2023, to celebrate Live Oak County Day at the State |
---|
7 | 7 | | Capitol; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, In the years before it became part of Texas, the area |
---|
9 | 9 | | now known as Live Oak County was home to Native American tribes, |
---|
10 | 10 | | Spanish and Mexican colonists, and Irish immigrants, and this |
---|
11 | 11 | | diversity of cultures greatly influenced the development of the |
---|
12 | 12 | | area; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Live Oak County was created on February 2, 1856, |
---|
14 | 14 | | from parts of San Patricio and Nueces Counties and was named after |
---|
15 | 15 | | the imposing and majestic tree that grew throughout much of the |
---|
16 | 16 | | region; the economy was initially driven by the raising of sheep, |
---|
17 | 17 | | cattle, and cotton, but it was diversified by the discovery of oil |
---|
18 | 18 | | and natural gas in the 1930s and uranium in the 1960s; in recent |
---|
19 | 19 | | years, new technologies have improved the extraction of valuable |
---|
20 | 20 | | hydrocarbons from the Eagle Ford Shale underlying the county; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The rugged beauty of Live Oak County's brushy plains |
---|
22 | 22 | | is complemented by the Frio, Nueces, and Atascosa Rivers, and |
---|
23 | 23 | | lovers of the Texas landscape are drawn to such attractions as Lake |
---|
24 | 24 | | Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon State Park; the town of Three Rivers |
---|
25 | 25 | | delights residents and visitors alike with its annual Salsa |
---|
26 | 26 | | Festival, and other notable communities include George West, the |
---|
27 | 27 | | county seat, as well as Dinero, Lagarto, Pernitas Point, and |
---|
28 | 28 | | Whitsett; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Celebrating their rich and colorful history as they |
---|
30 | 30 | | work together to build a bright future, the citizens of Live Oak |
---|
31 | 31 | | County may take justifiable pride in the important role their |
---|
32 | 32 | | unique region continues to play in the story of the Lone Star State; |
---|
33 | 33 | | now, therefore, be it |

34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature hereby recognize February 8, 2023, as Live Oak County |
---|
36 | 36 | | Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting delegation |

37 | 37 | | sincere best wishes for an informative and enjoyable stay in |
