5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Mark Wade Atkins of Cedar Park passed away on March |

6 | 6 | | 30, 2023, at the age of 59, leaving his loved ones with a wealth of |
---|
7 | 7 | | memories that they will forever cherish; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Big Spring on November 21, 1963, Mark Atkins |
---|
9 | 9 | | was the son of Ted Roy and Nelda Faye Atkins; he grew up with the |
---|
10 | 10 | | companionship of three sisters, Sharon, Diana, and Sandra, and he |
---|
11 | 11 | | went on to graduate from Jack C. Hays High School in May 1982; he |
---|
12 | 12 | | served for a year in the United States Air Force; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Atkins received his commission as a peace |
---|
14 | 14 | | officer on September 1, 1983, and joined the Texas Capitol Police |
---|
15 | 15 | | and the Capitol Police Honor Guard; he transferred to the Texas |
---|
16 | 16 | | Department of Public Safety in September 1991, and he retired in |
---|
17 | 17 | | April 2013 after more than two decades of service; over the course |
---|
18 | 18 | | of his 30-year career in law enforcement, he dedicated himself to |
---|
19 | 19 | | his professional development and earned certifications as a master |
---|
20 | 20 | | peace officer and a firearms instructor; after retiring, he became |
---|
21 | 21 | | a special ranger in June 2013; he had a wonderful sense of humor, |
---|
22 | 22 | | and he was known for playing practical jokes on his coworkers; and |
---|
23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Atkins shared nearly |
---|
24 | 24 | | three decades of marriage with his loving wife, Peggy Atkins, whom |
---|
25 | 25 | | he wed on November 12, 1993; he also cherished his daughter, Laura |
---|
26 | 26 | | Christine, who preceded him in death; in his free time, he enjoyed |
---|
27 | 27 | | hunting, playing racquetball, boxing, and boating on the lake; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Although Mark Atkins is deeply missed, he will |
---|
29 | 29 | | forever be remembered with admiration and affection by his family |
---|
30 | 30 | | and by the numerous other individuals whose lives he touched; now, |
---|
31 | 31 | | therefore, be it |

32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

33 | 33 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Mark Wade Atkins and |

34 | 34 | | extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |

35 | 35 | | Peggy Atkins; to his sister, Diana Beard, and her husband, David; to |

36 | 36 | | his brother-in-law, Paul Green; to his nieces, Leila Little and her |

37 | 37 | | husband, Robert, Kendra Krebs and her husband, Bobby, and Sarah |

38 | 38 | | Bradt; to his nephews, Zack Green, Benjamin Reed, Mitchell Catlett, |
