44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Robotics teams from the Galveston Independent
66 School District distinguished themselves with their outstanding
77 performances at the CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship, which
88 was held from March 18 through April 1, 2023, in Council Bluffs,
99 Iowa; and
1010 WHEREAS, Four Galveston ISD campuses competed in the
1111 two-week-long tournament; representing the district were students
1212 from Oppe Elementary Magnet Campus of Coastal Studies, who advanced
1313 to the finals, and from Weis Middle School, who won the judges'
1414 award for robotics and a second trophy as the Mega Alliance drone
1515 champions; in addition, the team from Weis Middle School garnered
1616 the highest overall score from the competition, prevailing against
1717 top contestants from all over the world; and
1818 WHEREAS, Teams from Ball High School also put their skills to
1919 the test at the event, including the team "400F" that advanced all
2020 the way to the quarterfinals; rounding out the roster from
2121 Galveston ISD were students from Central Middle School, who made an
2222 impressive showing during their first year of competition since the
2323 district implemented a vertically aligned robotics program; by
2424 proving their mettle at nationals, teams from Galveston ISD
2525 qualified to compete in the VEX Robotics World Championship in
2626 Dallas from April 25 through May 4; and
2727 WHEREAS, Through their hard work and dedication to
2828 excellence, the students from Galveston ISD have earned their place
2929 among an elite class of competitors in the world of robotics and
3030 drone technology, and their accomplishments are a source of
3131 tremendous pride to their school and community; now, therefore, be
3232 it
3333 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3434 Legislature hereby congratulate robotics teams from the Galveston
3535 Independent School District for their achievements at the 2023
3636 CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship and extend to these talented
3737 young Texans sincere best wishes for continued success in all their
3838 endeavors; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4040 prepared for the teams as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4141 House of Representatives.
