7 | 7 | | performances at the CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship, which |

8 | 8 | | was held from March 18 through April 1, 2023, in Council Bluffs, |

9 | 9 | | Iowa; and |

10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Four Galveston ISD campuses competed in the |
---|
11 | 11 | | two-week-long tournament; representing the district were students |
---|
12 | 12 | | from Oppe Elementary Magnet Campus of Coastal Studies, who advanced |
---|
13 | 13 | | to the finals, and from Weis Middle School, who won the judges' |
---|
14 | 14 | | award for robotics and a second trophy as the Mega Alliance drone |
---|
15 | 15 | | champions; in addition, the team from Weis Middle School garnered |
---|
16 | 16 | | the highest overall score from the competition, prevailing against |
---|
17 | 17 | | top contestants from all over the world; and |

18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Teams from Ball High School also put their skills to |

19 | 19 | | the test at the event, including the team "400F" that advanced all |

20 | 20 | | the way to the quarterfinals; rounding out the roster from |
---|
21 | 21 | | Galveston ISD were students from Central Middle School, who made an |
---|
22 | 22 | | impressive showing during their first year of competition since the |
---|
23 | 23 | | district implemented a vertically aligned robotics program; by |
---|
24 | 24 | | proving their mettle at nationals, teams from Galveston ISD |
---|
25 | 25 | | qualified to compete in the VEX Robotics World Championship in |
---|
26 | 26 | | Dallas from April 25 through May 4; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Through their hard work and dedication to |
---|
28 | 28 | | excellence, the students from Galveston ISD have earned their place |
---|
29 | 29 | | among an elite class of competitors in the world of robotics and |
---|
30 | 30 | | drone technology, and their accomplishments are a source of |
---|
31 | 31 | | tremendous pride to their school and community; now, therefore, be |

33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

34 | 34 | | Legislature hereby congratulate robotics teams from the Galveston |

35 | 35 | | Independent School District for their achievements at the 2023 |
