5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Texas Ranger Lieutenant Roland A. Villarreal Jr. is |

6 | 6 | | retiring from the Texas Department of Public Safety on March 31, |
---|
7 | 7 | | 2023, drawing to a close an outstanding career with the agency that |
---|
8 | 8 | | has spanned 28 years; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Roland Villarreal joined DPS in 1995, and after |
---|
10 | 10 | | graduating from the academy, he was stationed in Zapata as a Texas |
---|
11 | 11 | | Highway Patrol officer; he was subsequently assigned as a criminal |
---|
12 | 12 | | law enforcement trooper with the Narcotics Service in McAllen, and |
---|
13 | 13 | | in 2000, he was elevated to the position of sergeant investigator, |
---|
14 | 14 | | subsequently transferring to Corpus Christi; in 2009, he was |
---|
15 | 15 | | promoted to lieutenant in the Narcotics Service and assigned to |
---|
16 | 16 | | Eagle Pass; he later transferred to McAllen and Weslaco, where he |
---|
17 | 17 | | oversaw a drug squad and a major gang unit; and |
---|
18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In September 2014, Lieutenant Villarreal was |
---|
19 | 19 | | appointed as a Texas Ranger, and he served in Harlingen, Weslaco, |
---|
20 | 20 | | and Edinburg before becoming a lieutenant with Texas Rangers |
---|
21 | 21 | | Company E in El Paso and then Company D in Weslaco; his many |
---|
22 | 22 | | responsibilities have included working as a crisis negotiator, |
---|
23 | 23 | | investigating the 1960 cold case of Irene Garza, and leading the |
---|
24 | 24 | | Company D Special Response Team; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Roland Villarreal's dedication, expertise, and |
---|
26 | 26 | | commitment to preserving the peace have greatly benefited the |
---|
27 | 27 | | people of Texas and earned him the respect and admiration of his |
---|
28 | 28 | | fellow officers, and he may indeed reflect with pride on a career |
---|
29 | 29 | | well spent as he embarks upon the next exciting chapter of his life; |
---|
30 | 30 | | now, therefore, be it |

31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
32 | 32 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Texas Ranger Lieutenant Roland A. |

33 | 33 | | Villarreal Jr. on his retirement from the Texas Department of |

34 | 34 | | Public Safety and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; |
