55 WHEREAS, The girls' basketball team of Harvest Christian
66 Academy in Edinburg brought its season to a triumphant close by
77 winning the 2023 Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools
88 1A state championship; and
99 WHEREAS, Following an impressive performance during the
1010 regular season that yielded the district title, Harvest Christian
1111 continued to excel in the playoffs, besting Faith Academy of
1212 Victoria, Heritage School of Fredericksburg, and Covenant Academy
1313 of Cypress; making its second straight appearance in the state
1414 semifinals, the team defeated Hill Country Christian School of San
1515 Marcos to punch its ticket to the February 23 state finale; and
1616 WHEREAS, The Lady Eagles battled for the crown against
1717 Prestonwood Christian Academy North of Prosper; in the first
1818 quarter, Harvest Christian jumped out to a double-digit lead and
1919 never looked back; when the final seconds ticked away, the team
2020 celebrated a commanding 81-25 victory, claiming the program's first
2121 championship and ending the year with an exceptional 13-game
2222 winning streak; and
2323 WHEREAS, Ashley Gonzalez, Jamie Gonzalez, and Riley
2424 McClaugherty were chosen as 1A All-Tournament Team selections for
2525 their outstanding play; the Lady Eagles also received valuable
2626 contributions from the other members of the roster: Lexi Garcia,
2727 Samantha Munoz, Genesis Moreno, Christina Quintero, Kezia Leal, and
2828 Maria Matus; these determined student-athletes were ably guided by
2929 head coach Jaime Gonzalez and assistant coaches Larry Quintero and
3030 Juan Landa Jr., and the squad benefited from the dedicated support
3131 of manager Abby Torres; and
3232 WHEREAS, Winning a state championship represents the
3333 culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering
3434 commitment to excellence, and the members of the Harvest Christian
3535 Lady Eagles basketball team are a source of great pride for their
3636 fellow students and their many supporters in the Rio Grande Valley;
3737 now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3939 Legislature hereby congratulate the Harvest Christian Academy
4040 girls' basketball team on winning the 2023 TAPPS 1A state
4141 championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff sincere
4242 best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
4343 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4444 prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4545 House of Representatives.
