No. 1347 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Chris Koetting is retiring as head football coach at Canadian High School in 2023, drawing to a close an exceptional career in education and school athletics that has spanned more than three decades; and WHEREAS, After taking the reins of the Canadian program in advance of the 2010 season, Coach Koetting guided the Wildcats to a 164-25 record in 13 campaigns; his players claimed back-to-back University Interscholastic League 2A Division 1 state championships in 2014 and 2015 as well as the 3A Division 2 title in 2020, when he was selected as the Press Pass Sports Football Coach of the Year; a perennial playoff contender, the team posted an outstanding 49-10 record in the postseason during his tenure and advanced to the state finals in 2018 and the semifinals in 2010, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022; and WHEREAS, In addition to overseeing the football program, Coach Koetting has also served as a teacher and as the athletic director for the school district; a graduate of Panhandle High School, he began his career as an assistant coach at Perryton High in 1992 and went on to coach at Lockhart and Hereford High Schools; in 2003, he joined the Canadian coaching staff as offensive coordinator before becoming head coach; in all his endeavors, he benefits from the love and support of his wife, Rosemary, and his children, Lauren, Bill, and Jack; and WHEREAS, Chris Koetting has served as an inspiring mentor and role model to countless young Texans, helping them to excel both on and off the gridiron, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his many achievements during his years at Canadian High School; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Chris Koetting on his retirement as head football coach at Canadian High School and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Coach Koetting as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
