5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to |

6 | 6 | | a close with the passing of John Frank Abbott of Mineola on April |

7 | 7 | | 21, 2023, at the age of 70; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of John Abbott Jr. and Anne Abbott, John |
---|
9 | 9 | | Abbott was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on December 8, 1952, and he grew |
---|
10 | 10 | | up with the companionship of two sisters, Colleen and Kim; |
---|
11 | 11 | | following his graduation from John H. Reagan High School in Austin, |
---|
12 | 12 | | he attended Southwest Texas State University, and he completed his |
---|
13 | 13 | | education at East Texas State University, where he earned a |
---|
14 | 14 | | master's degree in counseling and a doctorate in curriculum and |
---|
15 | 15 | | instruction; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In 1974, Dr. Abbott began his long and rewarding |
---|
17 | 17 | | career in education as a Spanish and English teacher at Mineola High |
---|
18 | 18 | | School; he subsequently worked as a counselor in the Alba-Golden |
---|
19 | 19 | | Independent School District, and in 1987, he returned to Mineola |
---|
20 | 20 | | ISD as curriculum director; he went on serve as the district's |
---|
21 | 21 | | superintendent for several years before accepting a position as |
---|
22 | 22 | | director of teacher certification with the Region 7 Educational |
---|
23 | 23 | | Service Center; along the way, he also served as a professor of |
---|
24 | 24 | | education at Texas College in Tyler; he was a teacher at Grand |
---|
25 | 25 | | Saline High School at the time of his passing; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Active in his community, Dr. Abbott was a longtime |
---|
27 | 27 | | member of the Kiwanis Club, the Wood County Child Welfare Board, and |
---|
28 | 28 | | the Mineola Caring and Sharing board, and in 2014, he was named |
---|
29 | 29 | | Humanitarian of the Year; a man of deep faith, he was a valued |
---|
30 | 30 | | congregant of First United Methodist Church of Mineola; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Above all else, Dr. Abbott was devoted to his wife, |
---|
32 | 32 | | Janell, with whom he shared a fulfilling marriage of nearly four and |
---|
33 | 33 | | a half decades; he loved cooking and traveling in his leisure hours, |
---|
34 | 34 | | having visited numerous countries over the years, and he was known |
---|
35 | 35 | | for his generosity, kindness, and joie de vivre; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, John Abbott was a man of great compassion who |
---|
37 | 37 | | remained engaged in the world throughout his life and who found joy |
---|
38 | 38 | | and inspiration in helping others, and he will always hold a |
---|
39 | 39 | | treasured place in the hearts of his loved ones and the many |
---|
40 | 40 | | students whose lives he forever enriched; now, therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
42 | 42 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of John Frank Abbott |
---|
43 | 43 | | and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be |
---|
44 | 44 | | it further |
---|
45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

46 | 46 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
47 | 47 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John |
