6 | 6 | | engineering, and mathematics, the Marvels robotics program is |

7 | 7 | | helping North Texas students gain the skills and confidence they |

8 | 8 | | need to build a bright future for themselves and for the Lone Star |
---|
9 | 9 | | State; and |

10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The Marvels initiative was established in 2021 by |
---|
11 | 11 | | Dr. Mohamed Ebeida, a research scientist at Sandia National |
---|
12 | 12 | | Laboratories, to increase access to STEM topics within the Muslim |
---|
13 | 13 | | American community and beyond; part of the nonprofit Itkan |
---|
14 | 14 | | Institute of Technology in Dallas, the program currently |
---|
15 | 15 | | encompasses four student-led teams that participate in FIRST |
---|
16 | 16 | | robotics competitions in the categories of LEGO League, Tech |
---|
17 | 17 | | Challenge, and Robotics; by taking part in these challenging |
---|
18 | 18 | | events, students gain knowledge and experience in such disciplines |
---|
19 | 19 | | as robotics engineering, coding, 3D modeling, outreach, marketing, |
---|
20 | 20 | | public relations, and fundraising; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Dr. Ebeida, Lon |
---|
22 | 22 | | Cherryholmes, Dr. Leila Kayed, and Marwan Marouf, the organization |
---|
23 | 23 | | hosts events that bring together FIRST teams from around North |
---|
24 | 24 | | Texas; at the FIRST Tech Challenge F&M League Tournament, held on |
---|
25 | 25 | | January 21, 2023, at the Islamic School of Irving, one of the |
---|
26 | 26 | | Marvels teams, the Marvels of Irving, made an outstanding showing, |
---|
27 | 27 | | securing a position in the finalist alliance, claiming the Connect |
---|
28 | 28 | | Award, and finishing as runner-up for the Inspire Award; the team |
---|
29 | 29 | | will go on to take part in the Regional North Texas FTC Tournament; |
---|

31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The Marvels team from Richardson, Marvels of MAS, |
---|
32 | 32 | | turned in an exceptional performance at the FTC Central Metro |
---|
33 | 33 | | Qualifier in Colorado, held on January 7, 2023; the team reached the |
---|
34 | 34 | | playoffs of the competition and recorded four wins and two losses to |
---|
35 | 35 | | capture the event championship; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Marvels robotics teams have |
---|
37 | 37 | | demonstrated notable skill and dedication, and they are indeed |
---|
38 | 38 | | deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Marvels of Irving and the |
---|
41 | 41 | | Marvels of MAS robotics teams on their achievements and commend |
---|
42 | 42 | | Dr. Mohamed Ebeida and all those associated with the Marvels |
---|
43 | 43 | | robotics program for their exemplary work; and, be it further |
