44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, By promoting the study of science, technology,
66 engineering, and mathematics, the Marvels robotics program is
77 helping North Texas students gain the skills and confidence they
88 need to build a bright future for themselves and for the Lone Star
99 State; and
1010 WHEREAS, The Marvels initiative was established in 2021 by
1111 Dr. Mohamed Ebeida, a research scientist at Sandia National
1212 Laboratories, to increase access to STEM topics within the Muslim
1313 American community and beyond; part of the nonprofit Itkan
1414 Institute of Technology in Dallas, the program currently
1515 encompasses four student-led teams that participate in FIRST
1616 robotics competitions in the categories of LEGO League, Tech
1717 Challenge, and Robotics; by taking part in these challenging
1818 events, students gain knowledge and experience in such disciplines
1919 as robotics engineering, coding, 3D modeling, outreach, marketing,
2020 public relations, and fundraising; and
2121 WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Dr. Ebeida, Lon
2222 Cherryholmes, Dr. Leila Kayed, and Marwan Marouf, the organization
2323 hosts events that bring together FIRST teams from around North
2424 Texas; at the FIRST Tech Challenge F&M League Tournament, held on
2525 January 21, 2023, at the Islamic School of Irving, one of the
2626 Marvels teams, the Marvels of Irving, made an outstanding showing,
2727 securing a position in the finalist alliance, claiming the Connect
2828 Award, and finishing as runner-up for the Inspire Award; the team
2929 will go on to take part in the Regional North Texas FTC Tournament;
3030 and
3131 WHEREAS, The Marvels team from Richardson, Marvels of MAS,
3232 turned in an exceptional performance at the FTC Central Metro
3333 Qualifier in Colorado, held on January 7, 2023; the team reached the
3434 playoffs of the competition and recorded four wins and two losses to
3535 capture the event championship; and
3636 WHEREAS, The members of the Marvels robotics teams have
3737 demonstrated notable skill and dedication, and they are indeed
3838 deserving of special recognition; now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4040 Legislature hereby congratulate the Marvels of Irving and the
4141 Marvels of MAS robotics teams on their achievements and commend
4242 Dr. Mohamed Ebeida and all those associated with the Marvels
4343 robotics program for their exemplary work; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4545 prepared for the teams as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4646 House of Representatives.
