5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

6 | 6 | | passing of Everett Barker "Butch" Williams on July 25, 2022, at the |
---|
7 | 7 | | age of 80; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Beaumont, Everett Williams was born on |
---|
9 | 9 | | February 6, 1942, to Floyd Everett and Villa Mae Morehead Williams, |
---|
10 | 10 | | and he grew up in Anahuac with two siblings, Drew and Kathy; while |
---|
11 | 11 | | attending school in Anahuac, he excelled in sports, earning |
---|
12 | 12 | | honorable mention All-State honors in football and placing in |
---|
13 | 13 | | several state track events; during this time, he met the love of his |
---|
14 | 14 | | life, the former Shirley Jenkins, whom he wed in 1963; over the |
---|
15 | 15 | | course of 58 years of marriage, the couple made their home in |
---|
16 | 16 | | Hankamer and raised three sons, Everett, Tim, and Danny; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Williams attended Baylor University on a |
---|
18 | 18 | | football scholarship and played on the team that won the 1963 |
---|
19 | 19 | | Bluebonnet Bowl championship; in 1966, he graduated from The |
---|
20 | 20 | | University of Texas School of Law, and he took an associate position |
---|
21 | 21 | | with the Houston law firm of Dempsey Prappas; he subsequently moved |
---|
22 | 22 | | to Baytown and became a partner in the law firm of Reid, Strickland & |
---|
23 | 23 | | Gillette, where he practiced real estate law for more than five |
---|
24 | 24 | | decades; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, In later life, Mr. Williams was blessed with six |
---|
26 | 26 | | grandchildren, Jerod, Hannah, Grace, Gage, Charlotte, and Cooper, |
---|
27 | 27 | | and a "bonus grandchild," Carl Isaacs, along with four |
---|
28 | 28 | | great-grandchildren, Gideon, Teagan, Asher, and Finn; devoted to |
---|
29 | 29 | | his faith, he attended services at the Church of Christ in Mont |
---|
30 | 30 | | Belvieu for over 60 years, and he further dedicated himself to his |
---|
31 | 31 | | community in his roles as a director of Anahuac National Bank and |
---|
32 | 32 | | American Plant Food in Galena Park for many decades; he enjoyed |
---|
33 | 33 | | hunting and spending time in the outdoors, and he was admired for |
---|
34 | 34 | | his gifts as both a superb cook and a wonderful storyteller; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Everett Williams was a source of joy and inspiration |
---|
36 | 36 | | to all who were privileged to know him, and he will forever hold a |
---|
37 | 37 | | cherished place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
39 | 39 | | Legislature pay tribute to the life of Everett Barker "Butch" |
---|
40 | 40 | | Williams and extend sincere sympathy to all those who mourn his |
---|
41 | 41 | | passing; and, be it further |
---|
42 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
43 | 43 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
44 | 44 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Everett |
