44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
66 passing of Everett Barker "Butch" Williams on July 25, 2022, at the
77 age of 80; and
88 WHEREAS, A native of Beaumont, Everett Williams was born on
99 February 6, 1942, to Floyd Everett and Villa Mae Morehead Williams,
1010 and he grew up in Anahuac with two siblings, Drew and Kathy; while
1111 attending school in Anahuac, he excelled in sports, earning
1212 honorable mention All-State honors in football and placing in
1313 several state track events; during this time, he met the love of his
1414 life, the former Shirley Jenkins, whom he wed in 1963; over the
1515 course of 58 years of marriage, the couple made their home in
1616 Hankamer and raised three sons, Everett, Tim, and Danny; and
1717 WHEREAS, Mr. Williams attended Baylor University on a
1818 football scholarship and played on the team that won the 1963
1919 Bluebonnet Bowl championship; in 1966, he graduated from The
2020 University of Texas School of Law, and he took an associate position
2121 with the Houston law firm of Dempsey Prappas; he subsequently moved
2222 to Baytown and became a partner in the law firm of Reid, Strickland &
2323 Gillette, where he practiced real estate law for more than five
2424 decades; and
2525 WHEREAS, In later life, Mr. Williams was blessed with six
2626 grandchildren, Jerod, Hannah, Grace, Gage, Charlotte, and Cooper,
2727 and a "bonus grandchild," Carl Isaacs, along with four
2828 great-grandchildren, Gideon, Teagan, Asher, and Finn; devoted to
2929 his faith, he attended services at the Church of Christ in Mont
3030 Belvieu for over 60 years, and he further dedicated himself to his
3131 community in his roles as a director of Anahuac National Bank and
3232 American Plant Food in Galena Park for many decades; he enjoyed
3333 hunting and spending time in the outdoors, and he was admired for
3434 his gifts as both a superb cook and a wonderful storyteller; and
3535 WHEREAS, Everett Williams was a source of joy and inspiration
3636 to all who were privileged to know him, and he will forever hold a
3737 cherished place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3838 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
3939 Legislature pay tribute to the life of Everett Barker "Butch"
4040 Williams and extend sincere sympathy to all those who mourn his
4141 passing; and, be it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4343 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4444 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Everett
4545 Williams.
