| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The tragic passing of Maranda Gail Mathis of Uvalde |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | on May 24, 2022, at the age of 11, brought an unimaginable loss to |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the many people who loved and cherished her; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Maranda Mathis was born in Gainesville, Florida, on |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | May 6, 2011, to Deanna Gornto and Brian Mathis Jr.; she grew up with |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the companionship of a brother, Bruce, and she was further blessed |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | with the affectionate support of her grandfather and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | great-grandmother and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Shy and sweet, Maranda enjoyed spending time |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | outdoors, where her pursuits included collecting rocks, shells, and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | feathers; she had a kind heart, an engaging smile, and a vivid |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | imagination, and she often expressed her love for unicorns and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | mermaids, particularly those that were her favorite colors, purple |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and pink; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Although her time on this earth was far too brief, |

| 20 | 20 | | Maranda Gail Mathis was a ray of light in the lives of those who held |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | her dear, and they will never forget the abundant happiness that she |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | brought to them; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Maranda Gail Mathis |

| 25 | 25 | | and extend deepest condolences to the members of her family: to her |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | parents, Deanna Gornto and Brian Mathis Jr.; to her grandfather, |

| 27 | 27 | | Brian Mathis Sr.; to her great-grandmother, Margie Mathis; to her |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | brother, Bruce Mathis; to her aunts, Angela Turner, Pamela Lucas, |

| 29 | 29 | | Jean Gornto, Barbara Miller, and Carol Miller; to her uncles, |

| 30 | 30 | | Melvin Mathis, Ted Gornto Sr., Quinten Mathis, James D. Miller, and |
