44 R E S O L U T I O N
55 WHEREAS, Dr. Usamah Rodgers has received a 2023 Outstanding
66 Texan Award for House District 111 from the Texas Legislative Black
77 Caucus; and
88 WHEREAS, A fitting recipient of this notable honor,
99 Dr. Rodgers is the superintendent of the DeSoto Independent School
1010 District; over the course of an exemplary career in education that
1111 has spanned more than two decades, she has held several leadership
1212 roles, including dean of instruction, assistant principal, and
1313 campus principal; more recently, she has served as an executive
1414 director and as deputy chief of strategic initiatives for Dallas
1515 ISD, the 14th largest school system in the country; and
1616 WHEREAS, This dynamic educator was integral in designing,
1717 launching, and leading one of largest implementations of the
1818 Pathways in Technology Early College High School programs in the
1919 nation; she participated in the Harvard Principals Institute in
2020 2009 and has delivered presentations to local, state, and national
2121 conferences about the importance of access, advocacy, equity, and
2222 excellence; in 2020, she was named the best K-12 Education Leader by
2323 The Edvocate, and she was also honored as Teacher of the Year in
2424 1998 and as Cedar Hill ISD Principal of the Year for 2008-2009;
2525 moreover, she has been recognized by organizations such as the
2626 Future School Leaders Network, the NAACP, the Garland Club of the
2727 National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's
2828 Clubs, the Texas PTA, and Raise Your Hand Texas; and
2929 WHEREAS, Dr. Rodgers holds a bachelor's degree from Missouri
3030 State University and a master's degree and doctorate from The
3131 University of Texas at Austin; active in her community, she is a
3232 member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the National
3333 Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc.; and
3434 WHEREAS, Through her myriad contributions to education,
3535 Dr. Usamah Rodgers has made a positive difference in the lives of
3636 countless young Texans, and it is a privilege to join in recognizing
3737 an individual who has long been a force for good in her community;
3838 now, therefore, be it
3939 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
4040 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Usamah Rodgers on her receipt
4141 of a 2023 Outstanding Texan Award for House District 111 from the
4242 Texas Legislative Black Caucus and extend to her sincere best
4343 wishes for the future; and, be it further
4444 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4545 prepared for Dr. Rodgers as an expression of high regard by the
4646 Texas House of Representatives.
