| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Andrew McCord Gilchrist of Houston, an accomplished |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | attorney, a proud Texan, and a beloved father, husband, and friend, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | passed away on April 21, 2023, at the age of 55; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on September 16, 1967, Andrew Gilchrist was the |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | son of Ralph and Mary Ann Gilchrist; as a child, he was passionate |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | about sports, especially basketball; he excelled as an athlete at |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Memorial High School, receiving several All-State and All-Star |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | honors, and he helped lead the varsity team to the state |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | championship finals in 1984; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Gilchrist earned a scholarship to play |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | basketball at Rice University, where he was a starter for all four |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | years and was voted senior captain by his teammates; he led the team |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | in field goal percentage for three consecutive years, and he |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | received both the Most Valuable Player award and the Billy Wohn |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Award as the top male athlete at Rice; he obtained a degree in |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | economics and managerial studies and then continued his education |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | at the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, where he |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | graduated in 1993; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Gilchrist was as much a superstar in the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | courthouse as he was on the basketball court; he began his legal |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | career at litigation boutique firms and earned his board |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | certification in personal injury trial law; in 2000, he was hired by |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | ExxonMobil as counsel in its Torts Litigation section, and he |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | remained with the company for the next 22 years, serving most |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | recently as general counsel for ExxonMobil Risk Management, Inc.; |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | over the course of his career, he met people who were not just |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | colleagues but dear, lifelong friends and mentors; outside of his |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | professional life, he was a member of The Church of St. John the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Divine, the Houston Country Club, the Boot Ranch Golf Club, and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Garwood Lease; and |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Gilchrist enjoyed the love |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | and support of his wife, Laura Gilchrist, and he adored their |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | daughters, Mackie and Ellie; he liked fishing, hunting, playing |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | golf, and any activity he could share with friends and family, and |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | he was always the life of the party and the star of the show; in |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | addition to being a loving family man, he was devoted to his |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | community and to his faith; and |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | WHEREAS, Although the passing of Andrew Gilchrist brings an |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | immeasurable loss to his loved ones, they may take comfort in |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | remembering the exceptional life he led and the many happy times |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | they shared with him; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 47 | 47 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Andrew McCord |
|---|
| 48 | 48 | | Gilchrist and extend sincere condolences to all those who mourn his |

| 49 | 49 | | passing; and, be it further |
