| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Judge Rick Morris has been named a recipient of a |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award by the Killeen Independent School |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | District Alumni Association; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the alumni association recognizes |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Killeen ISD graduates who have contributed significantly to their |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | communities or professions and who serve as inspiring role models |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | for future generations; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, A 1969 graduate of Killeen High School, Judge Morris |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | earned a bachelor's degree from The University of Texas at Austin |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and a law degree from the Baylor University School of Law; he began |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | his legal career in private practice and went on to serve as an |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | assistant U.S. attorney before being appointed judge of the 146th |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Judicial District Court on May 5, 1989; in the course of his six |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | consecutive terms on the bench, he presided over countless civil, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | family, and criminal law cases; furthermore, he acted as judge of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the Bell County Drug Court from 2009 to 2015; he currently serves as |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | a visiting judge, and he is of counsel to the Baird, Crews, Schiller |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and Whitaker, P.C. law firm; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Judge Morris has been affiliated with a number of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | professional organizations, including the State Bar of Texas, the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Texas Center for the Judiciary, and the Bell County Bar |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Association; in addition, he is a life fellow of the Texas Bar |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Foundation; in recognition of his many achievements, he was named |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | the Bell County Public Sector Lawyer of the Year in 2007 and 2012; |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, The accomplishments of noteworthy alumni are a |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | source of great pride to all those associated with Killeen ISD, and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Rick Morris is indeed deserving of this prestigious honor; now, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | therefore, be it |

| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 35 | 35 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Judge Rick Morris on his receipt of |

| 36 | 36 | | a 2023 Distinguished Alumni Award from the Killeen Independent |

| 37 | 37 | | School District Alumni Association and extend to him sincere best |
