5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Endeavors, a faith-based nonprofit headquartered in |

6 | 6 | | San Antonio, has made a meaningful difference in the lives of |
---|
7 | 7 | | countless people in need; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded as San Antonio Urban Ministries by |
---|
9 | 9 | | inner-city churches in 1969, Endeavors has grown dramatically |
---|
10 | 10 | | through the years and adopted its present name in 2018; the agency |
---|
11 | 11 | | delivers an array of services to children, families, veterans, |
---|
12 | 12 | | survivors of natural disasters, and people struggling with mental |
---|
13 | 13 | | illness or other significant disabilities; it additionally |
---|
14 | 14 | | partners and coordinates with government agencies and local and |
---|
15 | 15 | | national organizations to increase its ability to meet the needs of |
---|
16 | 16 | | vulnerable residents; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Endeavors now serves tens of thousands of clients in |
---|
18 | 18 | | Texas and beyond annually; its programs address such issues as |
---|
19 | 19 | | homelessness, unemployment, and child abuse, and it offers families |
---|
20 | 20 | | counseling, crisis intervention, and life skills and vocational |
---|
21 | 21 | | training, among other initiatives; key programs include Safe |
---|
22 | 22 | | Services, which furnishes crime victims with free professional |
---|
23 | 23 | | counseling and case management, Operation Parent Strong, which |
---|
24 | 24 | | holds group and individual parenting classes for military families, |
---|
25 | 25 | | and the Steven A. Cohen Military Family Clinic, which provides |
---|
26 | 26 | | integrated mental health care to veterans and their families; |
---|
27 | 27 | | moreover, Veteran Supportive Services offers homelessness |
---|
28 | 28 | | prevention and rapid rehousing, and in 2021, the agency opened the |
---|
29 | 29 | | Veteran Wellness Center in San Antonio, a first-of-its-kind, |
---|
30 | 30 | | comprehensive care clinic that addresses all aspects of health; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, During the COVID-19 pandemic, Endeavors was able to |
---|
32 | 32 | | adapt to the unprecedented situation by continuing 98 percent of |
---|
33 | 33 | | its operations remotely; the agency partnered with other support |
---|
34 | 34 | | organizations to establish two emergency centers in El Paso to |
---|
35 | 35 | | serve as points of entry for a network of area shelters; in |
---|
36 | 36 | | addition, Endeavors secured funding for COVID-impacted veterans |
---|
37 | 37 | | and provided housing assistance to clients in Houston who became |
---|
38 | 38 | | homeless as a result of the pandemic; and |
---|
39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, For more than a half century, Endeavors has |
---|
40 | 40 | | empowered countless people to improve their lives and build a |
---|
41 | 41 | | brighter future for their families, and in so doing, it has helped |
---|
42 | 42 | | to strengthen the entire community; now, therefore, be it |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
---|
44 | 44 | | Legislature hereby commend Endeavors on its exceptional service to |
---|
45 | 45 | | vulnerable people in crisis and extend to all those associated with |
---|
46 | 46 | | this noteworthy organization sincere best wishes for continued |
---|
47 | 47 | | success; and, be it further |

48 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
