H.R. No. 1473 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Texas Theater is a beloved local landmark and an iconic business in the Waxahachie community; and WHEREAS, Located on the Waxahachie town square, the theater was constructed in 1895; in the early years, it provided a venue for up-and-coming musical artists and stage actors, and it started showing motion pictures in 1907; the theater operated under a number of names over the succeeding years, and following a fire, it reopened as the Texas Theater on March 31, 1939; in 2022, the new owners, Jon and Alyssa Garrett, restored the building to its former art deco glory, complete with gilded detailing and red and bronze accents; and WHEREAS, One of the oldest theaters in the state, The Texas Theater has hosted numerous famous artists in its history, including Leon Russell, Jack Ingram, and Miranda Lambert, and Rusty Wier recorded a live album there; today, the theater continues to present live music performances, as well as movies, plays, and stand-up comedy; and WHEREAS, For more than a century, The Texas Theater has been a treasured community asset, and it is indeed deserving of recognition for its vital contributions to Waxahachie and the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas Legislature hereby honor The Texas Theater in Waxahachie and extend to Jon and Alyssa Garrett and their staff sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the theater as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
