| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Austin community lost an admired business leader |

| 6 | 6 | | with the passing of Güero's Taco Bar founder Rob Lippincott on |

| 7 | 7 | | November 4, 2022, at the age of 74; and |

| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born on May 16, 1948, in South Bend, Indiana, Rob |

| 9 | 9 | | Lippincott and his family moved around the Midwest before settling |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | in Houston when he was eight years old; in his youth, he gained a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | reputation for fearlessness by engaging in a variety of dares and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | stunts, such as performing a backflip off a 25-foot tower and using |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | roller skates and a bedsheet to take advantage of the winds from |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Hurricane Carla; a natural athlete, he was a superstar competitor |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | on the community swim team and in Little League Baseball, and as a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | student at Lee High School, he was a letterman on the swim team and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | became a state champion in track during his senior year; he went on |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | to enroll at The University of Texas at Austin, where he served as |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | president of the Kappa Sigma Tau Chapter, and he played baseball and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | football for the fraternity's intramural teams; he was later |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | recognized as the Tau Man of the Year and twice received the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | fraternity's Frank Erwin Award; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Lippincott spent the early part of his career |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | working a variety of jobs before he and his wife, Cathy, opened |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Güero's Taco Bar on East Oltorf Street in 1986; the restaurant |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | relocated in 1995 to the old Central Feed and Seed storefront on |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | South Congress Avenue, and over the years, it has played a vital |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | role in helping to create the distinctive atmosphere that the area |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | is now known for; with its signature Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisine and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | frequent live music offerings, Güero's has attracted locals and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | visitors alike, including many politicians and celebrities, and it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | has been featured in numerous travel shows as well as in the 2014 |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | film Chef; along with his business partners, Mr. Lippincott also |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | developed the South Congress complex that houses such popular spots |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | as Hopdoddy Burger Bar and Perla's Seafood & Oyster Bar; and |

| 36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Lippincott enjoyed the |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | love and encouragement of his wife, and he took great pride in his |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | two daughters, Lyle and Bette, who joined the family business in |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | 2013; he also had the privilege of welcoming two beloved grandsons, |

| 40 | 40 | | Milo and Theo, into the family; and |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Rob Lippincott earned the admiration of all who knew |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | him, not only for his success as a restaurateur and businessman but |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | also for his exceptional warmth and kindness, and he leaves behind a |

| 44 | 44 | | legacy that will resonate for years to come; now, therefore, be it |

| 45 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |

| 46 | 46 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Rob Lippincott and |

| 47 | 47 | | extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |
