| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Lung Cancer Action Week, which takes place during |

| 6 | 6 | | the second week in May, focuses much-needed attention on actions |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | that can be taken to combat the impact of this devastating disease; |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Hundreds of thousands of people across the nation |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | are diagnosed with lung cancer each year, and it is estimated that |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | approximately every two and a half minutes, another person in the |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | U.S. learns that they have the disease; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Lung cancer kills more Americans than any other type |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | of cancer; in order to ensure early detection and treatment, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | high-risk individuals are urged to take advantage of screenings for |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the disease; according to the American Lung Association, only 2 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | percent of high-risk Texans were screened in 2021; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, A national initiative led by the American Lung |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Association, LUNG FORCE works to mobilize individuals across the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | nation in the fight against lung cancer; the group is committed to a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | comprehensive approach that encompasses advocacy, prevention, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | early detection, research, and support; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Increased public awareness is a powerful weapon in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the fight against lung cancer, and Lung Cancer Action Week serves to |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | educate citizens about the importance of early intervention and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | treatment; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature hereby recognize the second week of May as Lung Cancer |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Action Week and encourage all Texans to learn more about the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | disease. |
