55 WHEREAS, Lung Cancer Action Week, which takes place during
66 the second week in May, focuses much-needed attention on actions
77 that can be taken to combat the impact of this devastating disease;

99 WHEREAS, Hundreds of thousands of people across the nation
1010 are diagnosed with lung cancer each year, and it is estimated that
1111 approximately every two and a half minutes, another person in the
1212 U.S. learns that they have the disease; and
1313 WHEREAS, Lung cancer kills more Americans than any other type
1414 of cancer; in order to ensure early detection and treatment,
1515 high-risk individuals are urged to take advantage of screenings for
1616 the disease; according to the American Lung Association, only 2
1717 percent of high-risk Texans were screened in 2021; and
1818 WHEREAS, A national initiative led by the American Lung
1919 Association, LUNG FORCE works to mobilize individuals across the
2020 nation in the fight against lung cancer; the group is committed to a
2121 comprehensive approach that encompasses advocacy, prevention,
2222 early detection, research, and support; and
2323 WHEREAS, Increased public awareness is a powerful weapon in
2424 the fight against lung cancer, and Lung Cancer Action Week serves to
2525 educate citizens about the importance of early intervention and
2626 treatment; now, therefore, be it
2727 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
2828 Legislature hereby recognize the second week of May as Lung Cancer
2929 Action Week and encourage all Texans to learn more about the
3030 disease.
